re: Most famous/memorable/iconic moment in Human History?

The guy uses the fact that the NASA program achieved so much in so little time as a mark against how impressive it truly is. He completely disregards the possibilitye of some kind of advancement in space travel. As if these things need to happen on a scale of decades to be possible. He works with inconsistent cross uses of reasoning. He also downplays the importance of the current level of space exploration and what we have learned from it about the nature of our universe. Dude is an arse.

Probably not one single moment, but the invention/use of the Internet is way up there too...

The Dark Ages are a myth.

Not to mention the fact that they began when Rome fell to pagan barbarians in 476. And the fact that Western Roman civilization went into decline long before Christianity. The Republic was lost before the birth of Jesus. The Empire reached its peak during the reign of Trajan (98-117 AD), two centuries before Christianity was even legal. The decline of the Empire is accepted by any serious historian as having begun with the accession of Commodus (yes, that one) to the throne in 180.

The Large Hadron Collider at CERN being built and turned on for the first time is quite significant as well. From some people terrified it would create a black hole and swallow the Earth, to them actually discovering a new particle...it is quite an insane, mind-blowing piece of technology. It is still in its infancy and who knows what the hell else we will learn from that thing.
