I pick the first atomic bomb test over the moonlanding because the atomic bomb was the beginning of the scientific age that led to the moonlanding. Both are good answers though.

Landing on the moon is mankind's single greatest accomplishment in history. I don't know how that's debatable.

It's the bomb. It was one country saying that just happened, we made it happen, stop what you're doing now. I really can't imagine it happening in real time based on how the world works today.

I would love a Turtledove writing on how the world would react if it was done for the first time in an age of twitter, YouTube, and 24 hour news.

I will stick with man creating The first stone tool as the absolute most important event in human history though, even if it is not iconic.
It's highly possible that if man didn't learn this when he did, our species would not have survived, so none of the other things would ever have happened.
