You caught me on a factual pet peeve

Guttenberg did not invent the printing press. That had been around for centuries. He invented MOVABLE TYPE. Upon his invention, it was not necessary to make an original full plate for each page of print. Allowed for such a drastic increase in the ability to produce books and increase literacy across Europe.

As great as many of these answers are, the answer is without a doubt landing on the moon.

Considering every human who has ever lived has looked up at the moon and wondered about it... To actually go there, to set foot on another world... There really can be no other answer when it comes to mankind's greatest achievement.

I think the only thing that may top that one day is the singularity, where in theory we may give birth to an (artificial) being that is superior to us.

Crucifixion of Jesus Christ, and I'm not even Christian.

First atomic bomb test would be pretty far up too though. It marked a point where the things that man is capable of manipulating reached a new plateau.
