Do people realize that private businesses can do what they want?

Honestly the only thing that hurts is my head after reading through that horrible grammar and spelling.

Historically many restaurants in New Orleans closed for the Fourth before Essence Fest was a thing.

Not in todays America. Progressives think that government intervention and social policy has a right to supercede personal freedoms

So they picked a slow weekend to make needed repairs?
No. They had a sewage leak and closed down to repair the place. It was al under the floors so they are ripping them out, cleaning, and replacing the floors.
Any racism involved was a figment of the imaginations of people that are constantly Jonesing to be victims.
I believe it was all started by a white Doctorate that runs an education related charity. He has yet to apologize or be held accountable for any damage his illusions, and subsequent SJW social media campaign, may have caused.
He, and Mitch Landrieu, are dickheads.

Jarvis DeBerry is writing an essay on this great injustice facing the black community as we speak. Tears are dripping onto his key board no doubt.
Power to his people.
Mitch Needs to shut his racebaiting pandering pie hole.

Everyone is a victim now, not just black people. Just wait til Christmas. Every purported Christian will be howling on about a war on Christmas because the guy at the bank said happy holidays to him.

Was a good place to eat before Saints games when they had the full menu. Their fried oysters and garlic fries were good and beat the he'll out of waiting 45 minutes for a table at that shithole Walk Ons. Now, though, with the limited menu, it's meh.

You're a few years too late. Christians won the War on Christmas, as "Christmas" has reappeared in stores the last couple of years and I've not heard any complaints from the religious.

Maybe the revenue to these restaurants during the festival would be better if they got better tips.

Here's my opinion, it's America, do what ever you want to do.
Agreed, you're free to do what ever you want as long as it's not racist. It's in the constitution cause we're a free country.

Reginelli's doesn't even have good pizza. Way too thin
I'm waiting for this conversation to happen:
Black person: You closed at Essence Fest because you don't want black people in your restaurant
Restaurant owner: Okay

There was that better grammar? I bet you and your crew sound like a bunch of Philidelphia lawyers your so proper right Boy?

I'm on the fence on this one. I've met some people that participate in the Texas Relays. Some are genuine and very nice, respectful people. Others....
You get that with any group.
Shutting businesses down, in the heart of the 4th of July and a major ethnic festival, on its face looks discriminatory. I feel for some of the nicer people I have met. The others...well, I understand the businesses decision.
Unless renovations were dire, I'd simply pay my employees a high, hourly salary for that week (to cover the tips and stress of working a major festival) and simply increase my food and beverage cost ($8 Coors, Bud, $18 burgers, etc.) as a "festival and event increase".
That way, your staff can still make some money, even if they are stiffed on tips and working in a hectic environment, and your business has the opportunity to make some money as well (at a super, high profit-margin).
