What if they were required, by the companies they work for, to interact with their fans on social media though? Or they actually enjoy interacting with fans that post nice comments or ones that provoke thoughtful discussion? That would then require them to glance over comments every so often to interact.

No, if you make a big deal out of it the trolls will only get worse. The only way to get rid of trolls is to ignore them. Giving them attention is like giving them ammo.

It's kinda like the class clown in school. If he makes a joke and everyone laughs he'll use it as positive reinforcement and keep making jokes. If he makes jokes and no one laughs, he'll eventually stop.

A ton of people seemed to have missed the point of the video, or at least didn't get what I did out of it.

I'm sure most of these people would laugh at the shite that was said if it was written on the internet, too.. or at least blow it off. But the impact of words often gets lost in text, particularly on the internet. Most of those people on the internet saying those things could never say that in person, to that person's face. How many of you could look that woman in the eyes and tell her you hope she gets raped again? Why would it ever be okay to say that to someone, how could that even be a joke? Or would you ever tell someone that you hope she gets hit with a hockey puck and dies? Why would someone even joke about that? No rational person could or would do that in person, so why do so many people do/say it on the internet?

Would you want people posting those comments on your fb...where all of your friends and family and colleagues can read?

If I was someone in the public spotlight and wrote for the public, I'd probably have seperate accounts with my family and friends on it.... And if I didn't and just let any jack leg post on my FB wall, I'd probably delete retarded post from time to time.

Would it upset you if you read comments like those if they were posted on the social media of someone you love?

Only if they seemed to be upset over it. I don't like to see people i care about being upset.... But if probably try to explain to them the same as I have in this thread, that it's all just stupid and someone using all their brain power trying to come up with the most vile thing possible to get a response.... That it isn't ANYTHING that should get anyone upset

Someone as famous as lsunurse should know you can set your fb to have to approve comments before they're posted on your wall.

I don't get the feelings hurt by Internet strangers line of thinking.

But but but what if you have to read it all the time, it will eventually get to you. What if your company made you socialize on social media and made you read the comments by someone that knows nothing about you? someone trying their best to come up with the meanest shite they can think of? I mean that would HAVE to get to a normal human being right?.... Yeah no, I don't buy into that at all... People need to seriously grow thicker skin. Maybe it's a female thing

I just don't understand how you could let internet trolls get to you. They don't know you. And they're probably a bunch of losers.

If hundreds or even thousands of people posted rude things about you constantly, I'm sure your opinion may change.

If you are in the public eye you have to expect this shite, people are usually trying to be funny. You just got to take it with a grain of salt.

Yes, we can all agree there are a lot of people that need to build thicker skins. God knows I work with a bunch of them. However, it should go in the other direction as well. The dicks should be a little less dicky.

How? Telling trolls to "stop" will only make them troll harder. Any attention, negative or not, is what they crave by posting the things they post. You cannot control them.

Learning to ignore them, having thicker skin, or just laughing at the ridiculousness is something you can control yourself and is a lot more productive.

Videos like the OP is only going to make the trolling worse for both of those women.

It's terrible the crap that people will anonymously tweet and post, but what's with those wussy men not able to read the tweet for the purpose of demonstrating how offensive it is.

Just read the line. We know the premise. We know its not actually you saying it.

Let the words speak for themselves, as horrible as they are (or are not). Don't blanch like a nervous school girl.

A few weeks after I inexplicably agreed to be in a video about online harassment — produced by a bunch of guys I’d never met — I found myself standing in a warehouse on Chicago’s West Side. I wasn’t sure what to make of the crew from Just Not Sports; the guys looked like standard bros or standard hipsters, basically.

Don’t tell us to find a different career, to get a thicker skin, or to ignore the trolls. You have no idea how much we ignore. We already ignore mountains of garbage, threats and innuendo each and every day. When you see us get upset over a seemingly tame insult, it’s likely because we’ve already been attacked dozens of times that day. That tweet, the one that seems so harmless, was probably just a bridge too far.

The reality is that we wouldn’t be in the industry without an unusually thick skin. The thin-skinned fell by the wayside a long time ago. We didn’t get where we are in the industry by being shrinking violets. For many of us, not standing up to a bully is against our very DNA. We’re fighters. We’ve crawled through mountains of shite to get where we are. We still get shite on every single day. Telling us it’s our duty to absorb the trash people send our way without fighting back is cruel. No one should have to go through what we go through just to do our jobs. We’re the ones that endure it, we don’t need your advice on how to handle it.

As for our male allies, we adore them. But that doesn’t mean we want them to speak for us. Most of us abandoned the idea of white knights long ago. Want to help change the world for the next generation of women in sports media? Scoot over and give us a seat at the table. We’re smart and capable and are perfectly willing to speak for ourselves. We don’t need rescuing. Speaking on our behalf is just another way of silencing us.

I know most of yall don't care about her followup article to the video but here it is. She mentions that it was the idea of and produced by men, which I found interesting.

Imagine that.

More whining.

If men whined about all the shite women did nothing would get done.
You want equality, Toots? There you go: equality is a big bowl of shite. Now eat it, shut up and grin.
