I don't think venom being spewed on twitter to sports reporters is something that's strictly exclusive to women in the industry.

No doubt. I frick with Rovell all the time. Some would argue he's a woman.

Did anyone make it all the way through? I got annoyed about 2 minutes in with the fake long drawn out pauses where the guys were "tearing up".

I still don't get what the point of the video is. People say mean shite on the internet all the time. STOP THE PRESSES.

Are male sports writers really getting the same troll responses as much as the female writers?

Yes I do. Now the comments to the women are probably more sexist in nature but that's just trolling 101.

Yeah but do you get it all day, every day? Why do you get it?

No, because I didn't choose to be a reporter for a living. But every one of my YouTube videos has some deplorable shite in the comment section

Yeah, they can ignore the comments and try their best to not let it get to them but why are we ok with people saying these awful things in the first place? It's still not exactly "right" but people saying means things to an anonymous screenname on a message board is different than saying it to a person's identifiable Twitter handle, even if they are both online.

I'm not trying to defend the people commenting but it's just a reality that when you give people anonymity they're going to use it to say hateful things. In most cases those people either 1) don't really mean what they're saying or 2) they do mean it, which makes them a shitty person and someone whose opinion you shouldn't value anyway. It's more about just accepting the nature of humanity, particularly young kids, and deciding if you can handle seeing it underneath all of your work

I just don't understand how you could let internet trolls get to you. They don't know you. And they're probably a bunch of losers. Who gives a shite what they say? It doesn't take a genius to realize they're saying those things just to get under your skin, not because they actually feel that way. I've had people say some horrible shite to me at various places on the internet and all I can do is laugh
Many women have been victims of sexual or domestic violence and having people tell them, over any medium, that they should get raped can be pretty horrible. Even if it's just trolling.

It's like asking why a veteran with PTSD lets certain things get to him. If he has PTSD then he can't help it.

Right. Having the actual authors of the tweets face the people they wrote them about, would have been interesting. This was just incredibly hammed up. The only one that probably was truly uncomfortable to read in front of the person was "I hope you get raped again"

the language of the trolling is different. But is being called a c*nt really all that much worse than calling a guy a fig and telling him to kill himself?

Am I the only one who couldn't stop laughing?

I mean, I don't do rape jokes, but the rest had me rolling.

Exactly. People are just looking for that shock factor that they know will get under someone's skin. It's not that they are harder on the women just because they are women per se, it's just that the material is an easy shot to take. That doesn't mean it isn't "more" hurtful, it's just easy to go there, so they do. Like you say, you can call a guy a fig, but what can you really do that's on the same level. Telling a guy "I hope you get raped" would be a very interesting tweet I guess.
