Sounds like it would have been cheaper to address the community’s concerns about their local services.

They spent more time trying to annex segments to attempt to make the departure less viable than it would have to simply annex St George and work the problem.

St. George's first official act better be to build a wall, bc everything else around it will be getting much worse.

So they lose $48.3 in revenue but also lose having to spend that in the area that will be St. George? It's a wash.

The only reason they would be worried is if they had been robbing the southern half of the parish and spending St. George's money elsewhere. Or even worse, siphoning it off.

That’s the issue and the rub.

BR was taking their tax revenue, but didn’t want to give it any attention and just give them generic “unincorporated EBR Parish” level of service.

My mother’s neighborhood missed being a part of St. George by one street. frick.

I assume that’s going to drop her home’s value if this goes through?

Good thing they haven't been doing that. Just look at all of the public schools in the St. George area for proof.... oh wait...

Does the St George vote have to be a special election? What if they held with regular scheduled election? Would that not apply then?

Seeing as the petition was done before this law, wouldn't that legislation only be applicable to new requests going forward? Doesn't that fall under the ex post facto limitations imposed on states?

Will her or Tarsha Clark Amar be taking pay cuts as well?

Seriously doubt it.

3. She's basically saying the citizens of St. George have no right to decide their own future.

You are seeing the later stages of the prediction that a democratic republic can only survive until citizens realize they can vote themselves money.

Be ready, it’s coming to a federal stage near you.

This is the real point.

SWB is such a dickbag. Had she worked with St. George instead of putting her priority and interest on North Baton Rudge, then she could have potentially avoided this.

Good for St. George. Let BR and SWB wallow in what they've earned.
