It is in fact as low as the shrimpers are claiming. The problem is the customer is not seeing the result of it. The docks are getting shrimp cheap, distributors are selling them cheap, restaurants are buying them cheap but the end user (customer) is not seeing the result in the stores or restaurants. The shrimpers are getting screwed on the front end and the customers are getting screwed on the back end, meanwhile the guys in the middle are benefitting. It is really sad what is happening due to the imports flooding the market.

nailed it!!!

I thought where it comes from was already on the label? I always check labels to see where the frozen product is coming from and i've never seen a bag without it.

Did this guy just start working in the import and food industry yesterday?

Barry started shrimping in 1982 and never thought the local shrimping industry would be where it's at today in a million years? C'mon baw.

I only use Gulf shrimp in my restaurant bc over seas shrimp are always pink and rubbery. Thing is if fishermen are only get .80 per pound it sure isn't reflected in the cost to the end user so if the fishermen arent making money and the end users arent getting low prices the middle man must be making a fortune.

He says foreign shrimp are flooding the market and that’s driving prices down for local fishermen. Shrimpers say at the start of last season the biggest shrimp were fetching $4 a pound. Now the local guys say for the same size shrimp they're only getting $.80 a pound.
someone should tell this shrimp boat baw shrimps sell for $10-$12+/lb in Rachet City.

But I understand these baws want to play the victim to get some market protection from big daddy.

I like Amy’s seafood mart. They don’t have much trash in what you buy.

Those shrimp are days old. I wouldn’t ever buy shrimp from that place.

Don’t buy shrimp that look black, even if they pass the smell test, you can tell just by looking at them if they are fresh or not

Cool, we can do that if they also claim proper wages and file their taxes properly.

It does. I don't know what that guy is saying, unless he wants it to be more obvious for people who don't check.

I get gulf shrimp at the grocery store 5 mins from my house, and the package has a decent-sized American flag on the back with "Product of USA".

earlier than that, Gulf of Mexico started resembling the Gulf of Tonkin as far back as the late 70s, now it was reported(don't know if it was true,) that the feds were bankrolling the Vietnamese fishermen, that would have chapped my arse if I were a fisherman
