People should just stop eating foreign shrimp. If the average person knew how disgusting those foreign shrimp farms are when they are being raised in chemical runoff ponds while eating their own shite to survive, they would go out of their way to buy Gulf Shrimp.

was quoted $6 for 9/12 ct on the docks 2 weeks ago. Yes, that's some beautiful shrimp at 9/12, but $6 on the docks? They are making money, one way or the other. Yeah, an import cap would be good, and I want to see our shrimpers thrive, but I don't think it's as low as they are claiming.

I find that hard to believe unless they thought they could frick you over or you went to a retail operation that looks like a dock.

I’ve been paying $2.75/lb for 16/20’s, I can’t remember them being that cheap in the last 20yrs.

So the price of shrimp, especially Louisiana shrimp is about to go up?

Fun.

Foreign catfish and tilapia are the same way.

Chickens eat their own shite too. Turtles (my favorite seafood)live in the nastiest water you can find.

It’s hard to believe anything the shrimpers say because they are all terrible businessmen with a 4th grade education, and as we learned after Deepwater Horizon, don’t keep any books and don’t pay any taxes.

But if they are getting paid 80 cents on the dock by the wholesalers, then stop selling to the wholesalers.

Join forces and sell together.

But that would require intelligence and business sense that they don’t have.

Our local crawfish farmers were caught in a squeeze like this a few years ago. Local wholesalers/processors were setting the price and hammering the farmers.
So the (larger) farmers started their own processing and distribution network.
I now have four processing plants with their own trucks distributing all over the south, within two miles of me.
Perhaps the shrimpers should try that.

I have never met a farmer who wants a free market. Farmers love their gubment handouts and will put up with any new regulations because most do not follow them anyway. Farmers also love to b***h about everything. Basically American farmers are the world's biggest welfare queens, and it looks like Louisiana shrimpers are starting to take notes.

It's always amazed me how they can import shrimp from China and still be cheaper than the guys who catch and sell right at the docks or fish house. It's a ready made market, and we want to support them.

I think shrimp and seafood in general should be regional. If it were up to me I'd cut off all international seafood. Make the market the domestic state and state it touches. I get it'd be a ridiculous notion but it'd be fresh and keep the quality up.

No the shrimpers are just looking out for their best interest.

But like Frank Lucas says in the movie American gangster "I care about the milk farmers as much as they care about me".

In other words, there is nothing wrong with industry lobbying for their best interest, but as a consumer I am not loyal to anyone, I am going where I can get more for my dollar.

With that said, when it comes to shrimp and crawfish... especially crawfish, I don't like the shite from China and you can tell the difference.

I always try to buy gulf fish but also really don't want nasty tilapia from China or catfish from god knows where.

Well that’s just not true - I’ve been to dozens large/mega shrimp farming operations and shrimp processing plants in Southeast Asia, as well as Central and South America in my career, and modern technology and equipment is used throughout that industry, - technology that would put more than few USA shrimp processing operations to shame. Shrimp harvested and frozen for export within a couple hours of the shrimp coming out the water. It’s too lucrative of a business for them to “frick” it up using shoddy, unsanitary practices.

And as I stated earlier I buy domestic Louisiana caught shrimp for my household, but my concerns over the quality of imported shrimp is not even on my radar as to the reason why.
