And my point with the bucees thing was that maybe the flood made them nervous, or the whole shooting deal over the summer? Or...they woke up and realized...."why the hell would we want to build in shitty BR?"

They aren't the only national company to pull the plug on building something in BR recently

Fact.

But that's why all those carpetbagger Yankees come down here for the winters.

Neither is Nurse

Water is wet.

Louisiana has bad roads.

But Nurse can't tell me where the 10 potholes are that she hits after being back in La for 5 minutes.

They really do.

Every person I've met that is from here always opines for the day when they can retire and move to Florida. It's hysterical.

In all seriousness, the location was terrible. You already have a near similar venue minutes away.

They're more fixated on hot button wedge issues like abortion, LGBT rights, religion, gun control, etc. which mean a lot emotionally to the people involved but really aren't that big of a deal in relation to how the state works.

This..This is a problem throughout the country (and probably throughout the world). People vote on emotional issues. I wish there were stats on the number of people who vote strictly because of one issue, that really doesn't have anything to do with the job they are voting for.

In other words, I know pro-life/pro-choice is a big deal to many people. They will are voting for the candidate they feel supports "pro-life". That is the only issue they care about, it doesn't matter what else that candidate supports, as long as they are pro-life (and vice versa).

In reality, whether it is legal or not, women will find away to have an abortion, if they really want to have one. Whether I support it or not, I don't think it is my responsibility to tell someone what they can or can't do.

In general, the only thing you can blame the current political climate on is the voters. This applies everywhere, but specifically in Louisiana it's part of the reason we remain where we are.

I know there are people defending the state and that's cool. Like I said, its home for me and I have pride in my state, but why settle? What is wrong with wanting to improve? I have enough pride in the state, that I would like to see it not ranked last in everything that its not good to be ranked last in.

I wish nurse would just come out and show us on the doll where Louisiana touched her as a child.

I don't understand why people get worked up when nurse points out the benefits of living in Arizona vs living in La. She grew up in La and now lives in Arizona. Correct me if I am wrong nurse, but if living in Arizona was worse than living in Louisiana, you would have probably moved right?

Again, correct me if I am wrong, but I am sure you take some pride in being from La. Most people take some type of pride in being from where ever it is they are from, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't point out the positives of their current situation and compare it to where they are from.

Louisiana is unique. We offer certain elements that you can't get anywhere else in the world, but maybe it is better to listen to people who have moved out and what keeps them from coming back so that we can improve to the point we can keep people in state and demand a better quality of life.

For me crime is a huge factor. I've live in at least 10 states and by far the crime in La was the worst. Say what you want about the white flight Paradise's of Prarieville or Mandeville or whatever. Every time a read something in the OT it's followed by that is/was a good part of town. Unless you live in a compound the crime is ramapant. The only people I know who have been murdered all happened in LA.

Only time I've ever been a victim of a crime is when I lived in Texas

How would you grade the roads in Baton Rouge?

jesus, who do you associate with?

None of them involved in crime. car jacking, restaurant robbery, armed robbery/mugging, drive by shooting where they got the wrong house, serial killer.

The most recent was on Halloween 4 years ago. He was a big LSU fan. They put his picture up on the jumbo tron during a football game. Robbed, shot and killed walking home from work in Baton Rouge.

Stop being in denial.

Between the police shootings, protesting and floods, you don't think that would play a factor in a business deciding not to want to do business in a certain area?

Maybe they are thinking... "You know, thinks seems to be a little unstable in baton rouge at the moment. Let's not open up there just yet. We don't want to open up for business and three weeks later a protest breaks out and for whatever reason, looting starts taking place and then someone decides to break into our place". The chances of it happening might not be that high, but if I am opening up a business somewhere, like any decent business person, I would have to look at the risk & rewards of opening up in certain locations.

I've never thought they were terribly bad. Nothing like the shite show we have in Nola. But according to nurse you can't drive for 5 minutes without hitting 10 potholes.

why are you defending nurse? She has made it clear she hates La and BR. I live in SBR maybe if I lived in NBR I could relate but she could just be happy living in AZ while not putting down La every chance she gets.

Oh and BR roads are pretty similar to most roads across this country...they just have a bad planning commission that approves construction of malls, neighborhoods, etc without building the infrastructure to support them. But condition f roads generally suck everywhere I've been.
