ok, before 8th grade, its reckless. head impacts are cumulative and that's been proven.

someone pounding their chest about their 10 year old little badass is nauseating.

Living in Texas it is a cultish thing for their little ones to strap on the helmet and pads and begin full contact at an early age. Knowing what we do now, we are holding ours out until they reach an age where it is school-sanctioned and their bodies have developed more.

6-12 year olds should not be in pads.....

I'd be terrified to let my kid play tackle football at the age of 12 never having learned the basics at a size and speed where injury was very unlikely to occur.

At 13 years old, there is serious contact going on. A kid who hasn't learned (I mean engrained learned) to not lower his head when tackling is very, very dangerous. And, there will be a kid who is much larger/faster/more developed, etc.

At 6 years old, they hug each other and fall down. You can focus on technique and seeing what you hit.

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see head and neck injuries go up by removing tackle football from 6-12 year olds.

Before practice all those 5/6 yr olds will run around with wreckless abandon... put a helmet and shoulder pads on them and they're scared as shite.

I'd literally watch them run around tackling each other BEFORE practice with no pads on... and during practice they're scared to tackle each other.

My 8 yr old started in flag and now has two yrs of tackle under his belt. We won the league Freshman Tackle Superbowl last year and went undefeated, kicked the shite out everybody. Not so much this yr.

I'm not raising a sissy boy

Mine also plays up a year and we are in Texas.

My experience tells me that's not the whole story. The concussions I saw started at about 11-12 years old. And, they were violent hits. It wasn't at all because the kids played when they were younger.

I saw the exact same this year. Had a bunch of wild kids on my son's team that play rough all of the time... until you put pads and a helmet on them.

I see the applied logic, but that is a cop out. So, start early to REDUCE the chance of CTE......jeez.

I began in 8th grade and picked up "you don't tackle what you can't see" very quick.....most of us did as our coaches were excellent.
