PJs knew how good iced coffee was LONG before Starbucks got into the fray. Starbucks and CCs iced coffee is way too bitter IMO. Pjs Viennese is outstanding.

I make a pitcher full a couple times a week and never drink iced coffee. Try Dunkin Donuts iced coffee if you have one near you. Much better than Starbucks.

Cold brew coffee is made by adding cold water to coffee and letting it sit for a long period of time (12 to 24 hours) rather than traditional coffee where you add hot water to coffee. When you cold brew coffee the resulting concentrate is around 70 percent less acidic. It also has a better and smoother taste . You can heat the concentrate if you feel that drinking cold coffee makes you more feminine. The brewing process is what determines the acidity.
You can buy a Toddy Cold Brew system for around 40 bucks. I make one batch a week and drink two cups a day.

ETA Got Blaze beat me to it.

Take a bag of ground coffee, dump it into a gallon container, fill with cool filtered water. Let steep for 12-24 hours, agitating every few hours or so. Filter, and it will last in the fridge for a week. You'll probably want to dilute it by half. shite is delicious.

no problem tigersfirst

I got turned on to iced coffee around 30 yrs ago when my girlfriend worked for Phyllis Jordan (PJ's) . Same gf also worked as the Mgr at Plantation Coffee house in late 80's, and then opened the first coffee house in Laffy - Cappuccino Cafe in the Time Plaza shopping center

IMO, toddy system is the only way to go for the best cold coffee brew

If you don't mind my asking, is the advantage of the Toddy (over just doing it the way I've been doing it) just convenience?

Just Go buy a Toddy Iced Coffee Maker...that's actually what SBux uses to make their new small batch iced coffee. I've had one for 12 years. I love all coffee, especially my french press but in the summer, i switch to iced. A toddy makes coffee concentrate that you can mix milk or water with. You can store the concentrate in the fridge for a couple weeks. (I recommend a good African blend coffee to use like Kati Kati from SBux) I also buy vanilla syrup from them to make a really good drink. I then just add ice & a little 2% and it's perfect.

How often do you have to make a batch of iced coffee using the toddy?

I ordered an Oxo cold brewing system...seems like the same principle as the toddy. Its actually arriving tomorrow.

I got tired of the gf and I spending $30 a week at Starbucks for iced coffee. From reading reviews online it seems easy as hell and possible better than what you might buy at Starbucks/Dunkin.

my concentrated batch of iced coffee usually lasts 10-14 days , I transfer it from the glass decanter into a gallon jug and store in fridge

each morning I make a 32 oz. large cup of IC which is 1/3 concentrate, 1/3 milk, 1/3 ice

on weekends I'll drink 2 of these large cups

that will definitely work brother, just a modified version of the toddy

another suggestion, I buy whole roasted beans which I grind and use for my iced coffee

I only used the toddy coffee for iced coffee because it tastes nothing like coffee and I like my hot coffee with just half a pack of splenda

But iced coffee has milk or whatever flavors to cover up the gross taste

Iced coffee does not automatically have milk in it. You can put whatever coffee you want on ice.
