We have both, I don't notice a lot of difference. Picture is great in both (Philips and Samsung)

Do look carefully at features: WiFi capable? Large variety of inputs on the back to accommodate multiple HDMI, RCA, headphone, etc.? Minimum 1080p resolution?

You need to do a cross ref. That board was probably in several other different tv's. Same board but different part numbers maybe from a smaller or larger tv than yours.
this is what I found out when searching for digital main boards and tcon boards for my Samsung. Got some for my 46" coming out of a 40". Same boards, same connectors, different part numbers

It's my understanding that you are not buying a product. You ae buying there service to repair it. Is that correct?

UPDATE

Decided to try out a service on ebay where they repair the SC board in lieu of purchasing a new one. Is cost $70, so I gave it a try.

Board unpacked after being shipped back to me:

Board Installed:

First try turning it on!!!!!!

Eta: similiar ebay listing as mine

i bought an enty level 55" 4k set for $899 (Samsung UN55HU6840) and am really excited to see what this can do. Apparently it can also run without a direct tv box so that saves $70 a year. It comes in tuesday and I will make a review thread after its set up

Stores are carrying more LED's because of profit margin and it's what the sales people are pushing. I have a Samsung Plasma in our living room and a Panasonic Plasma in our bedroom and love them both. The burnt images deal hasn't been a thing for more than 5 years as the technology has improved but salesmen still harp on it when customers show interest in Plasmas. I saw this first hand in Best Buy friday. I was there picking up the 49.00 Sony blu ray and saw a young couple looking at the plasma on sale. The rep told them it would have so many burnt images in 6 months that they would not even be able to see the screen. I told them that it was a bald face lie and not to believe it.Don't know whatever happened but plasma does get a bad rap from some companies pushing other stuff dishonestly.

So far my plasma TV is the best I've owned. I've had LED and LCD and plasma all from Samsung.
