wanting a new TV. still trying to decide if it's worth waiting til the week before the super bowl. not sure how good the savings will be.
what is better? LED or plasma? ive heard that plasma has the darker blacks but they also give a lot of glare if sunlight hits where the TV will be. its not as bad with LEDs apparently?
Any help is appreciated
TIA

Plasma has an actual sheet of glass, so the reflections from any sources of light will be a pain.
I have a plasma and I love it, but I have it in a dark room now, and had it where no light sources would reflect back at me in my old house.

I'm no expert on the matter, but as I understand it, with plasma you'll eventually get permanent imprints of images on the plasma screen. That will distort your future viewing pleasure.
Also, LED tv's are much lighter, so you can move them around easier
(or maybe I have an LCD tv??) and I don't know the difference btw LCD and LED anyway
so you ought to probably just disregard most of what I've said

I've always been a plasma guy. That being said, I recently built a house and put a plasma in my living room with lots of light and windows. the glare and reflection is awful. May have to try LED.
ETA: I had a plasma for 3 years in my old house. The room was dark. It was great. No issues. Picture still looks brand new.

That's not true.

No.
Plasma has better picture. Led is more reliable long term.
Arguments will come from both sides.

LCD and LED are the same thing - LED is a "sub" category of LCD which uses an LED backlight - that's the only real difference. Just as most price targets are edge backlighting systems, and higher end get to full backlighting systems.
Plasma is probably a better choice for low ambient light, theater-style viewing, while LCD/LED can be a better option if you need thinner, lighter, hang-on-the wall mounting in a variety of ambient light conditions.
Also, your time to choose plasma is rapidly running out - they have been better values for size, for quite a while and will be as they are phased out.
The new 4k systems will make everyone forget about plasma with the quickness - I expect they will be relatively reasonably priced within a year or 2 at most.

Just bought a 60" plasma and let me tell you man thats a great picture. Ps4 is looking fake it looks so real. Watched Avitar with the kids and I saw colors that i never noticed before. But there is alot of glare thats for sure.

But you have to take the plasma to get refilled once a year and that is a big pain in the arse. Headed to best buy next week to refill mine.

I moved my Samsung 46" LED to the bedroom after getting my Panasonic Plasma. quite honestly the picture on the Panny blows the Samsung LED away.

Plasma is great without windows around and for high speed motion. Football and video games...
Led less glare, power, cooler temps, but can have some grainey and blurring effects. Anything over 120hz refresh will help this effect

Nothing yet on the Panny

Meh. 120 is plenty fine. Most people don't know how to calibrate their displays in the first place. 240/480/720 or whatever, typically only makes the blurring/artifact problems worse.

TV deals start around the end of February through March...that's when new models come out so stores need to clear their shelves with previous year stuff. You can find some awesome deals if you wait till then.
Don't buy one before the SB...buy one after if you really want to save money.

Plasma is better in rooms that arent bright. LED and plasma have comparable picture quality in each other optimal environment, but with LED you have more flexibility. I had a plasma go out two weeks ago and I'm buying an LED to replace it.

Best Buy
I picked up this 60" plasma on Cyber Monday from Best Buy for $650 + tax. I had an LCD in the room before it and I can tell you this TV is MUCH better. I have it in a pretty dark room but there isn't much of a glare on the screen. The picture is extremely clear and I hooked up a Roku to it and now I have a Smart TV
