Robert E. Lee statue is completely historical and has nothing to do with bitterness or sour grapes, then why was me made to he deliberately facing north in defiance? This was clearly a little jibe from the statue and circle planners to the North and in protestation towards the outcome of the war.
Facing North? Looks like he is facing southwest on his horse to me.

historical and or bitterness does not equal racism

New Orleans has clearly become a liberal, global city where tolerance is vital to the recurring tourism, etc. I don't think any European cities would keep this monument nor would the San Franciscos or New York Cities of America.
There is a statue of one of Virginia's largest slave owners right at the foot of Wall Street.

I would seriously listen to an effort to remove the Lee statue. I'm not a close-minded dude.
Here's my problem though: Landrieu, like so many politicians, will speak loudly about the low-hanging fruit du jour. But the removal of the Lee memorial won't repair a single REAL issue in New Orleans. High violent crime rates come from high poverty rates, which come from poor schooling. Speaking of schools.....City Hall cares so much about schools that over half of the school zone lights in Orleans Parish are either inoperable or malfunctioning.

This is the same benson who was ready to walk away with this team pre katrina if we didn't build another stadium. Get your shite straight. Plenty a good man in this city did more than benson.

Our city is facing countless REAL problems and this is the type of shite he is spending hours thinking and actually speaking about! This is why our country is so F'd. You have people that aren't focused on the real problems. My wife is one of those social voters, votes based off gay marriage, abortion and issues that affect miniscule amounts of the population. Hello retards these are not our actual problems!! There is this thing called the economy

I would think installing new monuments would be preferable to removing old ones and denying our past. Good grief people want to just bury their heads in the sand.
C'mon Mitch, I hoped for more from you.

Idiots who worry about this stuff need to make up their minds.
The same people that wanted to get rid of the Lee statue are probably the same ones that cried when LSU was considering naming a building after General Sherman (the school's first president) because of his bloody march to the sea.

Take a lesson from Mississippi for once and just don't give a damn what other people or states think about you.
But no one seems to notice that one of their counties is named after the guy who founded the Klan.

Change the name "New Orleans" it envokes images of slavery and racism!

It should be renamed happy rainbow candy plaza
Posted on 6/23/15 at 3:44 pm to blueboy
Governor Phil Bryant has already said he doesn't support changing it citing the 2001 vote as a reason why we shouldn't. I'd be willing to bet the vast majority of politicians in Mississippi won't vote for a change because it would be political suicide in the state

Can they at least rename Forrest County? That's pretty messed-up.

Glad Landrieu is following the ISIS ideology of getting rid of any historical monument.

We need to do like the Germans do and pretend like nothing happened between 1932 and 1945
The Germans have done nothing of the sort. In fact they've gone so far to the other extreme it is against the law to even question the holocaust. The Third Reich years haunt the people.
Now back on subject. I used to get offended when a school was renamed from its origin to something new. But neighborhoods change and the majority rules. If the majority rules so be it. Personally I believe that it's an important part of our history and should not fall victim to the so easily offended.

Is it time for the mayoral election in The Big Sleazy again? Sounds like Mitch wants to keep feeding at the trough.

Tolerance means understanding and accepting others views does it not?
Or does it now mean "frick your position, you're racist"?
