Well you aren't going to lose weight and gain muscle on any diet unless you are new to working out or just starting back.

I just saw a YouTube video explaining why this is and it was very eye-opening.

Unless you're just starting out or you're starting back from a hiatus (long hiatus), your choices are either to bulk or cut. You can't do both.

Unless you do steroids, of course.

In summation, the OP now knows keto is a great diet that's sustainable long term, makes people stabilize their blood sugar levels, reduce inflammation, reduce the risk for heart failure and cancer, and #Gainz all day.

Well done gentlemen.

Yes. When his organs began to "shut down" because he'd eaten McDonalds... Best fake documentary after Catfish.

8-10 hrs of it are when you're asleep.

You're only talking a few rough hours of wanting to chew your fingers as a snack.

What is a Ketogenic Diet?

In the most general terms, a ketogenic diet is any diet that causes ketone bodies to be produced by the liver, shifting the body’s metabolism away from glucose and towards fat utilization. More specifically, a ketogenic diet is one that restricts carbohydrates below a certain level (generally 100 grams per day), inducing a series of adaptations to take place. Protein and fat intake are variable, depending on the goal of the dieter.

quote:

What is Ketosis?

Ketosis is a natural metabolic state in which your body breaks down fat into free fatty acids (FFA's) and ketones to use for energy. FFA's and ketones always occur together, so by seeing more ketones in the body, it's easy to say that your body is burning fat for fuel. For a more in depth understanding of the process, please read this post by Dr Peter Attia along with part two.

Now, your body can always burn FFA's/ketones, just like it can always burn glucose (sugar broken down from carbohydrates)/fructose (sugar metabolised by the liver) or alcohol (also metabolised by the liver). Your body will burn whichever fuel is present, prioritizing those that would kill you if left in the blood stream (alcohol or glucose). Lyle McDonald explains fuel use in The Ketogenic Diet. Excess energy (from food) is stored until it's needed. Keto can help you feel more satisfied, which means you take in less energy (and as consequence, use more stored energy).

Keeping carbs low helps regulate insulin levels, which can help avoid cravings and make it easier to eat less. It can also help regulate hormone levels. People with some illnesses (PCOS, metabolic syndrome, autoimmune/inflammatory issues) find symptoms improve while on keto.

Do Calories Matter?
Being in ketosis is not a magic trick for weight loss. Before your body burns stored energy it either uses or stores what you take in from your diet. Energy balance is more complex than a Math formula and biology works like biology . Being aware of how much you eat is important for weight loss because while it is nearly impossible to know exactly how much you are using, if your body is getting all of it's energy from your diet, there is no need to break down stored fat. Keeping track of what you eat will also help you make sure you're staying close to your targets and getting proper nutrition.

One side effect many people notice with keto is they are generally less hungry. This could be due to more consistent blood sugar levels or because fat is more satisfying. Many people find if they only eat when they are hungry and only enough to satisfy them (not eating until they are full) they have no problems losing weight. Some find it easy to keep up an intermittent fasting routine where they fast for a certain amount of time and only eat during a specific window.

There's more than one way to lose weight.

Keto just happens to be one extremely efficient way to do it.

Not really. HDL is generally responsible for taking fat from fat stores to be burned and LDLs take unused energy to be stored as body fat.

Since he was eating calorie deficient diet for so long his body had to produce more HDL to use for converting body fat to energy.

Not given in this graphic is his workout regimen, blood pressure, change in blood sugar baseline, how his daily energy levels were affected, and how his stomach and gastrointestinal system responded to the high sugar intake.

I'm currently running this IF schedule: Lean Gains. It's basically 16 hours of fasting and 8 hours of feeding. It's still follows the basic principal of calorie restriction, but it makes calorie restriction much easier, along with the benefits of your body going through a prolonged fasted state. One of my friends is doing a 20/4 fasting schedule and he has lost over 60 lbs in about 3.5 months, however he doesn't work out so he's losing muscle too. There's different programs out there, you just have to find the one that works with your schedule and goals.

Google "Intermittent Fasting Benefits". There's a ton of research on it. Accelerated fat loss, immune health, mental focus, digestive health, and plenty more.
