Don't act stupid in court. They will keep you on concrete with no bunks or shower for days in contempt.

I got held in contempt once. For two hours.

Called the defense attorney a stupid motherfricker on the stand.

If you miss court and get picked up on a bench warrant the judge gives you the option of either paying the ticket or serving time instead. You'd be surprised how many people opt to just serve a few days.

This is one of those situations where the guy that got arrested can't control his mouth.

His decisions cost him the 10 days

As mentioned, he might of had a bench warrant out for him. Pay, or get your tickets fixed kids.

This.

If the guy is broke and unemployed then taking the 10 days in jail is a good financial decision. He doesn't have to pay the fine and he gets 26-30 free meals.

There's gotta be more to the story. He either:

-Got stopped for seat belt violation but had outstanding warrant

-Acted like an arse with the cop or in court

-Got seat belt ticket and never paid it, which led to warrant being issued for unpaid seat belt ticket

My first year out of law school, I had a court appointment to defend a man on a misdemeanor. We cut a nice deal for him (he had a record, but the D.A. agreed to put him on probation).

This particularly County Court at Law Judge (Texas) liked to give a little lecture as part of his sentencing. About halfway through, my guy jumps up and says "If I had wanted a sermon, I would have gone to church."

Needless to say, it didn't end well.

Years ago, I was in court (in Texas) waiting for a civil hearing and there was a plea in the DUI case. The man was found guilty, even though the prosecution had a terrible case (jury found the man guilty). The defendant called his lawyer a "retardo" and referred to the Judge as "frickface" and said he didn't "give a shite what the Judge did to him."

The man was held in contempt. I told everyone at my office about the idiot I saw in Court. Phone rings - it is the Judge appointment me on the contempt charge.

I initially read this wrong.

So what was the outcome of the contempt charge? Did he learn his lesson?

Why would you be held in contempt?

I thought he meant the judge was appointing him to represent the defendant on his contempt charge.
