Our dogs would be going ape shite if someone was breaking into the house and then they'd set the alarm off if they did. Outside of some professional hitman or drugged up zombie I think that would deter most.

3, as soon as they get just past half way up the stairs. The barrel is coming out from behind the wall and they aren’t making it to the top step.

AR out of those. A shotgun can be unwieldy turning in hallways if you are having to clear. Say your are looking for your kids while this is going on. Multiple perps with family in the house requires more precision than a shotty.

I would probably choose #3 but it is a a non issue because SO will use whichever one of his guns that he is keeping next to the bed.
