#2 esp if I can make use of that illuminator

For home defense 3 is the best option for most everyone unless you are extremely trained with 2 for combat.

I have a shorter barrel, pistol grip version of #3
The challenge with shotguns though is you aren’t supposed to leave one in the barrel. That means a slight delay compared to the one options.

I run a beretta 1301 with a Leupold Delta Point Pro, and light, extended mag, #4 Buck 2 3/4” to get the extra round, plus the extra round in the mag well, stays bedside

Anyone who says #3 likely has no tactical training and/or highly overestimate their ability with a shotgun because they use it to hunt. Well, this ain't a dove hunt.
#2. Click off safety and start ripping.
Also, anyone who says "over-penetration" is an idiot. Any of the choices would blow through multiple walls in your average house without hitting a stud, and even the a slug or 00 buck would keep going. At least with the AR that round will begin to fragment.

This would be in close quarters with a person that's groggy, probably scared. I think a shotgun would be better for most people in that situation
Especially if you’d prefer not to kill anyone else in the house and your neighbors. Using a .556 in a neighborhood setting is asking for Trouble.

I legit have #3 mounted under my bed frame and a few more firearms stashed around the house. Nothing is better than a shotgun in close quarters if you know how to use it.

I imagine firing any of the three indoors with no hearing protection would be blinding and disorienting for the shooter. I think a pistol with a light would be the easiest to move around with, open a door, turn a corner etc. maybe less muzzle flash.

2. Esp if you have the nods to go with that IR. Wizard eyes

At least that AR is suppressed

3. All you need is one shot or just a pump for the intruder to hear.

I use a derringer because I’m just that damn good. And it makes it more sporting.

I’m almost positive. Especially if you shoot someone facing away from you.
By that logic the safest way to break in to someone's house is to make sure your back is always to house.
It doesn't work that way in free states.
