for their entire career?

e.g. Donna Britt, Pat Shingleton, John Pastorek, Steve Schneider, Jacques Doucet, etc...

It's the same anchors for ages now at the same station

If you're the "lead" in your city, you're going to make good money and make a name for yourself. No reason to move to the #40 market for a $15k bump and a weekend role where no one knows who you are.

Some here do. We've had a rash of ones that have retired recently that have been around since the 80s. But we seem to lose weathermen to Florida on a fairly regular basis.

Local news folks are like college football assistants- if they stay at one place too long, they are probably not worth a crap !

I don't know if that's completely true. Pat Shingleton is ingrained in the BR community. He's got his "Coats for Kids" campaign; drinking at the old Ivars; Starting the St. Patrick's Day Parade; drinking at the old Ivars

Jay Grimes once told me his salary for being chief weatherman. It's more than enough to be comfortable in BR. There is no reason for him to ever move to a bigger market.

Don't care about the anchors, only care about Chita.

I wish Houston had more severe weather days.

New Orleans anchors are there forever as well....

actually seen the same thing in Washington DC with Jim Vance and Doreen Gentzler....

they've been there a very long time and Vance approaches Morgan Freeman levels of cool....

We have the same in Birmingham as well. The weathermen too, at least the chief meteorologist at each station. One of the anchors retired a few years ago and it was a big deal on who the replacement would be. They just ended up bumping the co-anchor to the main spot and some girl that had been there for 10 years doing weekend broadcasts got bumped to co-anchor.

Talent doesn't move much in small markets.

Fox8 does seem to be hiring all of WWL's formers, though. (shrugs)
