I'd guess the odds would be slim that we even had enough bilogoically in common to catche each others diseases.

the reason this happened historically is because there were members of the same species (man) on both continents, and the old world humans had been exposed to far more deadly diseases than the new world humans.

there are clearly a lot of things to be concerned about if we encounter aliens, but unless they're actually human, the diseases they carry are pretty low on the list.

Honestly, no. As far as we know, they are not at all compatible with our bodies and wouldn't know what to do with our cells. It's the same reason why we don't get dog sicknesses and they don't get human sicknesses for the most part. These viruses and bacteria evolve alongside those animals. Only reason it was so effective against the native americans is because we had the same genes but not the same viruses.

True. This is where the gays and the Aids came from. And Bono.

They think we all stoopid.

If they are that advanced, odds are they are more civil than humans are, and even we don't want to start shite on other planets.

Visiting aliens would likely find our atmosphere less than compatible, and would need protective suits or stay in ships.

What we would get visited by would be unmanned (un-aliened) vehicles. Robots and cyborgs and such.

I don't see why that's necessarily the case. They just have to work well together, but could be barbaric as frick to other creatures. Ants are basically what I have in mind for this.

I am not aware of humans giving diseases to ants. If aliens have the technology to reach earth today, we are no more than ants to them. Disease or not, we would be quickly eradicated. We think nothing of killing ants. Why would we?

I really don't think that's how it works. An alien species would come from a completely different evolutionary path. Their diseases in whatever form that they may take probably wouldn't be evolved to attack our biology. Even now on this planet with species that came from relatively very similar evolutionary paths, I'm pretty sure that most diseases are species specific and take a random mutation and prolonged proximity to make a jump between species.

That is the most prevalent theory. I don't know why that comes across as unintelligent to you. Think of Europeans invading the New World. They did not intend to live peacefully with the Indians. They wanted their resources.

You would think....but when the spanish came to America didn't only the european diseases knock out the aztecs and not vice versa?

The Spanish and Europeans had more "germs" and therefore more resistence to "germs" because of living in close proximity to animals. Native Americans had few if any domesticated animals.

I'm suggesting that Paige fricks the aliens. She could be the savior of the human race.
