Yes, that's one of the selling points they use for the train. Supposedly it will take cars of I-10.
Well, it will. Just not all that many.
I guess I never looked at it as a solution to BR or NOLA traffic issues, but more as a potential way to spur the local economy and promote a little regional tourism. I'd love to be able to take the train to NOLA for the day or for a weekend trip and not worry about driving or parking.

he only solution right now and it's temporary is to have all truckers take the older Mississippi bridge.
Since interstates were built for commerce, how about all cars take the old bridge?

They were built for military mobility

he cost of the all this work plus the bridge is going to be so much, it's going to be a funding nightmare.
Which is the main reason it hasn't happened yet. All the studies aside, if you can't secure funding, even the perfect route that ruffles not one feather isn't going to happen.
The bridge and the approach roads immediately adjacent to the bridge will cost over $1B easily. Add in land aquisitions between tie-in points and any work that needs to be done to existing roads and you're looking at probably another $200M.

It's amazing that we can secure funds for bridges to nowhere, but we can't secure the funds to fix arguably the biggest interstate bottleneck in the entire country.

It would be a novelty and certainly grannys would take their grandchildren for rides, but just how bad do we need this when we have so many other critical problems with transportation? That's the question.

I think the Feds should fix it for free. They were responsible for the initial work, right?
Or am I wrong?

now we are going to suffer because there were no provisions made for a by-pass , loop, or new bridge.
What are you talking about? We already have the new bridge.

We have a bridge where its not heavily needed, we have no designated R.O.W., nor any idea where a loop or by-pass would go.
A R.O.W. should have been established either north or south of BR(city)decades ago so that growth could have been planned around the beltway, etc.
Its too late now to get the most effective path and designers are left to wander through rural areas dodging neighborhoods and wetlands, etc.

Connect back to i10 below highland and i 12 around walker
Is there enough open land that isn't really expensive to connect near Highland or would the connection need to move further east?

That would be a disaster. You realize how many vehicles are in & out of the plant and business driveways daily on Hwy 30?
I definitely realize it, but until you have tie-ins built along the interstate somewhere it is the quickest option.
Even last year there were studies being done in Iberville that would take the potential bridge, cut through cane fields from White Castle/Bayou Goula area and across HWY75 by the Plaquemine Wal-Mart and come out at Grosse Tete as a bypass around going through BR. Whether it ever gets discussed again, anyone's guess.

Old news, the "new" bridge was supposed to be between Brusly and Addis in 1969.
They could've saved a lot of money and looked at the studies from the '60's
Repeating history.....

That's why you tie it into I-10 somewhere around Highland with a big interchange.
I guess this will help people trying to go to WBR on the current bridges. But, this seems like it will royally screw everyone headed towards Ascension at 5PM. The traffic headed towards New Orleans out of BR is crazy. I cannot imagine adding people headed towards WBR to that.

Simple fix that I've been saying for years. Grosse Tete exit to Sunshine Bridge (Donaldsonville) up through Sorrento to 12. Problem solved.

It will probably tie into I-10 closer to Gonzales. They will have to widen i-10 and 30 but they knew that already. It's inevitable.
And I-10 is going to be widened beyond Highland into Ascension Parish. Construction starts this year on that and ends in 2047.

So a 10 year daily average of 50,000 cars per day, which is fairly light traffic for a 4 lane bridge. IMO that's a conservative estimate for a bridge placed between DOW and Plaquemine connecting I-10 in WBR to Highway 30 on the east side of the river near St Gabriel/Geismar.
That accounts for $365,000,000 in toll revenue in 10 years at $2.00 per vehicle. A $700 million bridge and highway would pay for itself in 20 years, and that's not taking into account future growth in traffic volume or tolls. In 30 years it would have generated hundreds of millions in profit for investors.

Bridge should be north of plaquemine. Connect to i10 just east of grosse tete.
frick you.
I have 140ish acres that will not be imminent domained.

I'd cross immediately north or immediately south of DOW Chemical and upgrade highway 30 and highway 1 significantly.
Edit: A freeway connecting the bridge to I-10 at or west of LA415 in WBR would be ideal.
