Yes, it is depressing when you visit other areas of the country and then come back home. Its a bad combination of rednecks who think that throwing trash outside the truck window .....well they dont think they just do. And the minorities who just dont care. Louisiana is poor and largely uneducated, and it isn't going to change anytime soon. Combo a low tax base and you dont have the monies to pick up the trash fast enough.

Yep.

I come back to Louisiana 6-8 times a year. The trash is truly embarrassing. It's always a good time trying to explain that part of our culture to out-of-towners.

In no way is that true. As far as big cities go. Boston is very clean.

Go other places and trash is not near as an issue as here just no denying that fact. I wish it were different but people just dont seem to give a shite about keeping the state clean. Heck get off the interstate at any intersection in Baton Rouge and look around at all the trash, weeds growing in concrete crack, trees that are not trimmed, high grass, cigarette buds, etc. It's an embarrassment.

With as many people we have on welfare in this state, I don't know why we don't at least make them contribute to beautification efforts in order to receive their govt subsidy

Everyday driving down Airline in Prairieville it amazes how tall the grass in the medians get. Then when they get around to cutting it they shred all the trash that was stuck in it and it gets left behind. Even the grass growing out of the concrete medians gets 3 ft high

They keep the grass tall so it covers up the garbage. The litter crews (when working) step through the high grass to pick up trash before the mowers come along and shred everything up.

Of course, a process that should be done at least each month is done more on a twice a year schedule.

Another thing that kills me is the fact that at least locally in BR, DPW has no weedeaters. The best place to see this in action is along Perkins and the railroad track, where they will cut 4' high grass and leave the grass surrounding a pole, bench, cable, etc.
