Ok, I'll just get it fixed cheaper at a local VW mechanic. Nope. The guy said he can't even get the part bc of some VW security thing, basically ensuring I have to get it repaired at dealer. What a scam!
This sounds like BS. I would call around.
Did you try removing the console cover and spraying WD-40?

There's a guy that works at the Southpoint VW service desk that could give two shits about your experience and general perception of their work. I'm glad we're getting rid of the TDI to avoid seeing him
The main guy retired thankfully.

We spilled Coke, Jack, Miller Ponies, lit firecrackers; all kinds of crap.
The cars still ran.
VW should make this right, but they won't.

My 2012 Passat was a tank. Great car.
That said, I went back to the dealership when it was time for a new company ride. Was looking at the V6 SEL premium........it was like they didn't want to sell the fricking thing. I had noticed a strange culture change as well. That company is having issues.

Did they promote one of his subordinates who acted just like him? Or did they actually go find someone that was customer service oriented?

If I was physically there when he told me that, good chance it was getting ugly
No it wasn't.

First off, I'd ask to see pictures, provide the defective parts, etc. If they are going to say "Coke was spilled on it" they are going to have to prove it to me.
If they can't prove it to my satisfaction, I'm taking that info straight corporate and threatening to get an attorney.

So the guy calls me back, says spilled Coke of some sort has shorted out the gear shifter mechanism & warranty won't cover it to tune of $1400

As a practical matter, that's not practical.
