I agree. All the jobs that slaves, and later free Blacks, were given would just go to other minorities or poor whites.

Physical labor most likely would shift to poor whites in a share cropping system. There could potentially have been a stronger and more hostile class divide without slaves being the dominant lower tier.

I think a revolution would take place in the South similar to worker riots in the North factories instead of a Civil War or at least be a cause of it.

As for today, the poverty still exists just with small pool of blacks and large sea of poor whites. Capitalism is inherently colorblind.

I have mentioned this before, but I think if the US never had slavery and ended it, slavery would still exist. I also think that black people worldwide would have a lower standard of life. Just saying that makes me look like a racist, I guess. It's just the fact of the matter that the descendants of slaves in the US and even Brazil are better off than the descendants of the tribal people who captured and sold them.
