I had them a few months ago, and while it was painful, it was more or an uncomfortable pain. More like a contant pain in my lower back/kidney area. And then later felt like I had been kicked in the nuts, and it was constant until it passed. My wife on the other hand ended up in the hospital, and was in severe pain. It just depends on how big the stones are.

Severe flank pain on one side or the other, usually accompanied by nausea and possibly vomiting (secondary to pain). You may notice color change in your urine, an increase in frequency, but not necessarily output. Pain may be severe enough that you cannot perform normal daily functions. You may also have blood in your urine that may not be visible, but will show up on a specific test that is simply performed at a Clinic/Hospital.
