Putting a toilet in yourself? Piss on that. Too much shite to put up with. I'd hire someone.

Yea, seals the toilet to the black water pipe. Aka the poo drain.

re: How long does it take to install a new toilet?
from unpacking to getting the old toilet out.. 30 minutes-1hour..

1. Turn off the water flush the toilet to empty the tank.
2. Use the plunger to get 90% of the old water out of the bowl. Use a sponge if you want to get the rest out.
3. Unscrew the two screws on either side of the toilet and disconnect the water drain line (have a cup handy to catch the water in the line.
4. pull the toilet up and take it outside.
5. clean the old wax ring off, I use a old paint scraper.
6. unbox the new toilet, put new screws in where the old ones were, apply the wax ring to the bottom of the new toilet
7. Gently seat the toilet aliging the screws (you could use help at this point)
8. after it's seated put some weight on the toilet to crush the wax ring. tighent everything up.
9. attach the water line and fill the tank.
10. flush toilet and take a crap.

I hope I didn't miss anything.

Seach youtube for a video on it. It probably takes about the same time as the lenght of the video.

Way less then a hour. That is installing everything that goes inside the tank, remove the old shitter and install the new shitter.

Plumbers will charge no less the a 3 hour show up unless you buy everything from them.

To change, first install the junk the goes into the tank of the new shitter. Install tank to bowl.

Shut off water to old shitter, flush it to remove as much water as you can from the tank. Have a bucket and unscrew the water fill hose, slip bucket under to catch any water dripping.

Remove the caps that cover the bolt/nuts at the base of old shitter. Remove shitter. Under there is a wax seal. Remove that and clean area. Install new wax seal. Put new bolts in slot were old bolts were. Install new shitter. Install water line and set the float. DONE!

Other than checking to see if there is any damage to the flange, that's a good list.

about 45 mins, it is easy. I would just watch a few you tube videos and then attack... I use a shop vac to get all the old water out of the old toilet. Good luck and god speed!

If you didn't know the toilet had a wax ring...............you better just call someone to do it.

Since toilets can be heavy, would it be easier to install the bowl first, then attach the tank with components to the bowl?

Just make sure you don't crank down on the toilet when you bolt it back down. Toilets crack much easier than you think
