re: How long can Walmart stay on top when so many people dislike the stores?

The one or two times a year I'm miserable and hating my life in a Walmart I don't get the impression that most of the people in the store feel the same way about being there as I do. Most appear to be comfortably within their element.

Walmart’s low-wage workers cost U.S. taxpayers an estimated $6.2 billion in public assistance including food stamps, Medicaid and subsidized housing, according to a report published to coincide with Tax Day, April 15.

How long will it take people to discover the wonders of Amazon Subscribe and Save. I haven't seen the inside of a Walmart or Sams in over a year...and it's wonderful.

Getting in and out of Wal-Mart is pretty easy with the self check-out. I can see getting frustrated if you get behind a long line of black people and each one makes 5 transactions for whatever reason they do that. But if you are a just-in-time shopper, basically going more often and getting a little at a time, it is a very convenient and cheap process. There is rarely a line for self check-out. I actually stop by to grab lunch from there often - they have hamburgers you can heat up, wraps, sandwiches, salads, or hot meals, all cheap.

Where do you get your groceries? Amazon is not an option for groceries and there is no place cheaper than Wal-Mart. Also, if you realize last second you are out of toilet paper or paper towels, you really order that Amazon and wait for it when you can run to a nearby Wal-Mart and get it just as cheaply and more quickly?

That's because they don't work and/or they have nothing better to do that day. Most people who work highly value their free time. People that don't work or work part time, have a lot more free time to kill. So they do it at the local wally world.

I go there at least weekly and I don't hate going. There are a few reasons why...
1) I go early on Sunday morning. The crowd seems to be mostly churchgoers. I hear lots of "excuse me's", "pardon me's" etc. and there is rarely more than one person in front of me in the checkout.
2) I have zero expectations of outstanding customer service. I know where stuff I located and I usually don't need/expect assistance.
3) I find that a particular WalMart's clientele is a product of the neighborhood where it is located. People don't drive past a couple of WalMarts to shop at the one by you. If your WalMart is exceedingly trashy, well, maybe it's time to move.

Do you know anyone who enjoys going to Walmart? Most of us know people who say they hate going there. They rank near the bottom of most satisfaction surveys.
I don't shop there.

Your confusion is based on your overemphasis of your understanding of "like".
Rational people will always behave in a manner that they prefer all things considered.
Ex: I don't "like" going to Walmart but it's better than spending an extra $50 at Winn Dixie.

I get groceries from my neighborhood grocery store. It's a much more pleasant (and Faster) experience than walmart and its locally owned.
As for the TP issue, you get your set items sent every month. They send you a reminder before it ships so you can add or take off what you do and don't need. If I have just a few rolls left, I'll add another box. If I have a ton, I'll take the box off the upcoming shipment. So the "catch", if any, is remembering to check how much you have before the order ships.
There's no sales tax (Im in Louisiana) and you don't have to go to walmart.

I loathe Walmarks, but still go there for basics if i need a whole bunch of them. No point in paying more for deodorant, soap, paper towels, etc. Hell they're cheaper on Rotella T than most stores. But I still hate the experience, which is why I'll go to Albertsons or WD for groceries.

Their customer-facing retail IT is crap. It looks third world, or as if they did it as cheaply as they could.

$$$$$$$$$$$.I guess.
The Walmart here is a bitch to go to.Traffic is always bad.
I hate going there, but sometimes I've got to.
They've got the hardest floor I've ever walked on.
eta:I live 2 miles from a Winn-Dixie and they're building a Publix not much further.
I like to stay on this side of the River. The East-Side is like the wild west.

other than prices it's a nightmare
we don't go near as much as we used to
a lot of times if you go real early or during a Saints game you can get what you want and get out
never buy perishable food there only necessities

Because most people don't have a choice of other providers in their area.
I too hate Comcast.
