Does she know anyone who works in the DAs office?

A friend of mine did not want to have to miss multiple days of work. One of the first questions they asked was "is anyone a racist?". He raised his hand and he was excused.. So if she gets to that point where they question them, she can give an answer that will likely get her out of it.

Call the DAs office and ask them just like this "what is the protocol for applying for exemption from jury duty?". See what they say and if asked why she can't attend tell them "I have responsibilities that will not allow me to be able to attend jury duty" Try to avoid telling them "well I make double what my husband makes so I got to go to work, plus I drop & pick up my kids from school". That's not going to really be a good enough reason.

Look. Tell Mrs 1099 to figure shite out and go be a citizen. You guys are not uncommon in this situation. She can work extra hours the following week, good grief.

Correct. Unless she's running a retail establishment you tell your clients/people you do business with, I'm in jury duty this week, I will get back to you next week or in off hours and deal with it. If that's the case, she ain't really "losing money".

frick this dude, along with his boat and truck.

I'm serving on a grand jury right now. One member is the DA's uncle. I know the judge personally and the DA's wife was my next door neighbor when we were kids.

Holy shite, no way in hell would I want you on the jury if I was a defense attorney.

She should send them a response saying she doesn't want to be bothered with it. I mean almost rude. They will probably still make her report in, just to be assholes. When she is there generally act disinterested and if they do ask her a question ask them to repeat it because she wasn't listening. She might still be there a few hours, but the odds of either side wanting her on a jury will be slim.

It worked for me. I've been called once.

If you get to the jury selection phase during questioning do your best answer questions with questions. They'll view you as such a huge pain in the arse that they'll send you on your way.

Unless they sent it certified mail there is no way of them proving you got the summons.
. I used to think that would work because so many people have told me they have just tossed it in the trash. Until the last time I got a summons in the mail and went. They start reading off the names of the jury pool and about 15 people didn’t show. The judge called the deputy up to the bench and ordered everyone of them to be picked up.

I have been picked 4 times and selected 3 times. I found it interesting that one of the jurors on the last one appeared to be the least interested at the beginning and turned out to be one of the most interested at the end.

I have been summoned twice for federal court and twice for parish. Served on a jury for the parish. That was very interesting and story in of itself.

She should simply tell the court she can only be there between the time she drops the kids off and when they get home because she has no other people to look after her kids.

It would be an exceptionally mean court that made her stay on a jury.

People trying to get out of jury duty are scumbags. But they'll sure hope to get a good jury if they are on trial.

She did that last week before the deadline but still got a letter yesterday saying to be there Tuesday morning. I don't know if it was a mail overlap or if they just said screw you.

Means she should show up, probably. She's not the only person in the world who doesn't get paid when serving on a jury.

She can show up and ask to approach the bench and tell the judge her hard luck story again and see what happens. Probably nothing, but she probably won't get picked either.

Just ask about jury nullification. That'll get you tossed immediately.
