I couldn't get out of it last time I got called. I called and explained to them that I work 2 1/2 hours from home and that I would have to make a special trip back.
They didn't care. Told me sorry, we don't let people out of it any more. 2 days of BS.

Look. Tell Mrs 1099 to figure shite out and go be a citizen. You guys are not uncommon in this situation. She can work extra hours the following week, good grief.

If you are even halfway intelligent and reasonable, you have no business skipping jury duty. People who skip it deserve the justice system they get in this state.

Some jurisdictions are more lenient than others with excusing or rescheduling. She better just go at this point and not make any obvious attempts to get out of it because now they already know she was trying to get excused.

I tried the self-employed, no work - no pay excuse to no avail for federal jury duty.
A guy I know who is normally fairly well dressed was also called for the selection pool. He showed up dressed like a bum and left his false teeth at home. He was sent home in the first cut.

she's calling now to see if her letter was accepted or not. She said she'll just go and deal with it.
She can't work extra hours the next week because she sees preschool kids during school hours. They don't have the option of after school services. I told her to ask if I could sit in for her. I teach Civics/Economics and would actually enjoy doing it.

I have to report to Federal Court on Monday for jury duty. I called to get out of it. No dice, show up or get picked up. I work on 24 call and missed two good offshore jobs because the date got pushed back a week. Them truck nuts aren’t going to pay for themselves...

I'm serving on a grand jury right now. One member is the DA's uncle. I know the judge personally and the DA's wife was my next door neighbor when we were kids. Neither of us were excused.

She is excused. The childcare issue was the kicker.
