Parking in the yard is a totally different situation.
What do I think when I see a neighborhood with cars in the street? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I grew up in and my parents still live in a very nice neighborhood. There are always cars in the street. The uptown neighborhood of multi million dollar homes always have cars in the street. It means nothing other than they have a lot of cars.

It looks trashy. That's it. It shows (on average) that you have more people living in the house that it was originally designed for. That's why the nicer neighborhoods tend to have restrictions against this. It is not because they simply want to be pricks.
I can't believe people who are obviously intelligent don't understand this concept.

It can depend on the neighborhood. If the neighborhood is in a major city and the homes are too close to have ample parking...that's one thing. But, if you live in a neighborhood with a 2 car garage/carport and private drive...you shouldn't be parking in the street.

So a family with 4 kids in a 5-6 BR house with the kids between 23 and 16 means you can't have 6 cars?

That's average? Really? In what neighborhood around here is this the normal living arrangements. I would like to drive through myself and make my own opinion as to whether or not it is trashy.
Apparently Paige's step-dad gets it. He seems like a nice guy to let his step-kids and their kids come back and live with them until they get back on their feet. I'd buy him a beer.

I think that has a lot to do with where you live, wink. Most places there have tiny driveways and street parking is just a fact of life
I don't think it's trashy so much as he doesn't want to inconvenience the neighbors

Ok, a real suggestion...
Maybe 1 car parks straight all the way to the right, and the other 4 cars park at an angle (kind of like one way parking lot lanes?) Then everyone can get out without having to have superior parallel parking skills.

Dots there bc TD won't allow blank space between symbols

Describes at least 10 families I grew up with, myself included.
You'd hate my parents house most weekends. My two aunts are over, all four kids, their spouses or significant others, and another 5-6 friends.

No way. You knew of 10 other households that had that many kids living there full time. None of them moved out on their own? None of them went off to college? Yet all of them had their own cars?
Where did you grow up?

There you go! and if you find things to keep you busy then it goes by pretty smoothly I bet.

In a upper middle class Catholic family in the South.
I see your edit. I was describing the situation during most summers and holiday breaks.

I have a family of trash renting one of the nicest homes in my community. They have cars parked everywhere except in their three car garage because it is full of shite.
It really degrades the community when you have eyesores like that.

Taking care of three teenagers is a lot of work
I really don't know how people have more than one

This tells me that the odds are the parents were well educated and/or hard workers who most likely wanted the most for their kids. Why would they not push all of you kids out and tell you to go to school?
You are talking about almost 50 kids that you knew of in your neighborhood who had their own cars, half of which were over 18, they all lived at home and they all parked in the street? All of those parents wanted that? You think that is an "average" neighborhood?

Golfer gets it. Once the kids reach high school, they get cars and most of the houses in my neighborhood had at least 4 cars. Mine had 5. We could fit 5 in the driveway but not everyone could. Then there is always someone visiting be it family or friends.

If you were laid off and can't afford to live on your own, how are you/your son able to afford a car for him and all of the expenses that go with it?

This is why they call it "Family Planning"
You are supposed to plan before you have a litter of children.

We'll have to agree to disagree. I obviously can't change your mind and you definitely won't change mine.
