At least as recently as about 7 years ago Southern had the worst accounting department I could ever imagine. I am basing this on the people I worked with who had accounting degrees from Southern and the people from Southern I tutored in accounting. It was mind-boggling how little they are taught. It's clear they pulled an English professor to teach accounting - I can think of no other explanation.

Southern law school grads are always perceived very poorly by the local law community.

As an attorney I don't think it has a reputation outside of Louisiana, for the most part. I only know of it because a) a friend considering law school once asked about it and b) because of this site.

Who shows up to recruitment days at Southern?

I mean besides Enterprise Rent-a-Car or Yellow Book?

Their part time program supposedly does considerably better than the full time program.

Southern's bar passage rate will give you an idea of what lawyers think of Southern Law graduates.

I'm not trying to offend you....Southern is largely not considered a good school by recruiters even in Baton Rouge.

There's a near endless supply of LSU grads that will take a reasonable salary to stay in south Louisiana and especially Baton Rouge. Southern is barely even on the radar outside of service companies and temp agencies. It's not nearly as competitive as it should be. That's the truth.

I actually think this helps some... employers hiring out of state will likely put more weight on your high grad % than it docks you for graduating from a relatively unknown school that it has no preconceived notion of.. My buddy had a harder time getting hired with a Southern Law degree in state than out of state.

Personally, I think the Southern Law evening program offers a great alternative to the debt laden education of Loyola. (Although in this legal job market, I'm not sure I could honestly recommend either... I'd probably encourage people to go with LSU's internal audit program and then work their way back to law if they were dead set on it.)

I knew a classmate who went to Loyola but transferred to Tech due to financial aid reasons. Other people have made similar decisions regarding Loyola tuition. Just how expensive is Loyola and why is it so pricey

I would have serious doubts. I mean, solos or small firms, that might be possible. But the idea that it'll slip by decent small, medium or large law firms is just unrealistic.

The only time I've seen this happen is with mediocre schools from the west coast. And FWIW, those aren't bad schools, just perhaps lower than the typical school targeted on the east coast. An unknown HBCU from Louisiana that a google search reveals is T4? No chance at firms I am familiar with.

Now, to be really frank, HBCU law grads can get hired with decent grades, but it is in spite of their degree, not attributable to it. But, even with a surge of diversity interest by medium and large law firms, I think minority candidates from non-HBCU schools are more competitive. Of course, I know Southern has a lot of non-minority law students, so that isn't applicable for a lot of grads.

Based on their graduation rate I don't think there are many out there

The real question is how do employers view Southern grads? IMO a bachelor's from there is = to an associates from Baton Rouge College of Champions. They got a solid law school though.

I dont know if you are continuously trolling or not, but Southern University law and engineering (think thats what your going for, 1 of the 2) are second rate to LSU, Tulane, Loyola, and even UNO. This is because the admission standards are easier and they accept more students. That being said, it doesnt mean all Southern grads get 2nd rate jobs. Get good grades, meet students and find out the right teachers to help set you up for success. Ultimately it will be up to you to make your own way in life, not southern university

Southern Engineering grads are very weak and seem to have problems passing the FE........IMHO, its not the kids, its poor academics and instruction. While being a minority institution, you don't have to act as some do in positions of influence.

Send me a facebook message, sweetheart. If you're real and last name is in fact Dutch, I'll be your biggest fan b/c you'll be just another lovable OT dumb arse with stupid repetitive questions akin to Ryno, rebloke, etc.

But recall shady fact number one. you had an account for over a year. Start your first thread in the middle of the night and it's geared towards enticing racist posts.

Prove you're not an alter and the witchhunt will stop. I

Better than Grambling. Slightly lower than Southeastern.
