I know quite a few folks that went to SU Law over LSU Law because it was so much easier on the pocketbook. All 3 are doing well (one is a lawyer, one is a DA, the other is a judge).
Outside of the law school though, I have no idea.

As for the other interviews, there are so many things that go wrong. Most fail to even show a "professional attitude." Coming to an interview in jeans and a polo for a (pre)professional position is a huge strike right off. Trying to skirt by using catch phrases and buzz words is bad enough, but using them in completely incorrect context is just plain dumb. Showing no enthusiasm and constantly giving 3 word responses is never going to score a position. I don't care if the question is technically "answerable" in a single word, you must expand on it. Make me interested in you.

I grew up in New Orleans and worked there a few summers during college. While I admit the small sample size, never once in these jobs did I encounter a Southern grad. I have interacted with Southern and Grambling grads as a patron to their employers, and I've largely been unimpressed.
I live in DC now and have worked professionally here for a decade. During that time, I've worked with a number of Howard graduates and they are as capable on average as most people I've encountered.
From my largely anecdotal experience, the difference between HBCUs in Louisiana and the more reputable ones, such as Howard, is extreme. Significantly more extreme in fact than the difference between your average southern state school grad (I've worked with Bama, UGA, UF and Arkansas grads) and Ivy Leaguers.

you went from physics at la tech, to a masters in engineering at southern.
now you are considering law or nursing?
I dont think nursing is at the main campus, but i could be wrong. Honestly with a bsn and rn you should get hired just about anywhere. after that id suggest getting into fnp

If you are not an alter and really are black and have an engineering degree from any school, then the world is your oyster. Companies will hire you not for your engineering skills, but so that they can meet affirmative action quota's and brag about their minority hiring practices. You will have all the big companies fighting over you and making big offers. The downside is that all of your co-workers will assume you were hired because you are a minority instead of capable. You could be a black Albert Einstein and you won't get any respect. That, my friend, is the truth and it's sad, because all of your accomplishments will be tainted. That is the downside of affirmative action.

That's just it. I found his resume online and, from what I can see in his skills and experience at Tech, he should NOT be wasting his time in the SU Grad School for Engineering. Should be working on video games or pursuing advanced engineering degree from somewhere else.

I can vouch now. He's legit. Just probably a bit naive, worried about future.

Or even just get an engineering undergrad degree after the physics. I Don't get it. Total speculation but he may have had some family influence to go and experience an HBCU.

I was aware you meant Southern of Baton Rouge. I assumed you find some Southern-BR grads working in Nola as well, but perhaps my experience would only be an issue if it included time working in BR.

If the above posters are truthful in regards to your resume, then you need to think about whether you are selling yourself short or not.

In the state of Texas we have Texas Southern, and I can't say I personally know anyone who graduated from there or Southern in Baton Rouge. I only know it to be a HBC, can't say I know much else.

I have had family tell me of their experience at an HBCU. However, none of them reference engineering at SU.
I decided to go to SU since I feel that it would give me a different experience from LA Tech. So far I am enjoying my course work, so I don't see why people are upset with SU engineering.
