The thing is that they can spoof their caller ID so it actually shows a different number than where the call is originating. You can block their number and they'll just call you from a different one. And so on, and so on. The ones that I get are always for an extended warranty for my vehicle.

Holy crap is that the biggest scam, or what? After buying a new vehicle every person in my households cell number was attained somehow. They called from all over the place, many numbers-- and said ACT NOW before your warranty expires. They send pink envelopes in USPS mail like it is urgent. Does the car dealership sell our info?

I think this is going to be my "go-to" response any time a telemarketer calls.....whether they try to sell me Viagra or not.

Probably sold by your carrier. The number I give is never my celltell.
They got them somehow.
Politicians are receiving kickbacks for not passing laws making this illegal.

I'm fricking fed up with these calls.

They get it form buying that Dick Juice from the Cialis thread here on TD. Indian Pharmacies will call you and hound you forever after buying that dick juice.

I installed a free app on my Android called Mr. Number.

It blocks almost all scammer or telemarketing calls automatically. It also has a directory of cell numbers. If someone calls me from a local cell number, it usually displays their name. But the scammers can spoof those numbers, so I usually don't answer. If someone wants to contact me, they can leave a voice mail.

Oh, and I hope all those phone scammers get arse cancer and die a horrible painful death.

FYI the IRS never makes initial contact via the telephone. Always via USPS.

And Windows Support. My computer has been uploading viruses to the internet, apparently, but he'll help me fix it. Always during supper. And if you tell him you are busy, he actually will call back. Even calls me from my own number sometimes.

This is 100% false. There are already laws prohibiting Robocalls. Except the robocallers don't give a frick about laws. They operate outside of the US and their laws. They spoof their numbers. And if they get caught they close shop and are open again in 2 days doing the same thing. The best tool I've found is NOMOROBO which is endorsed by the FCC. It's free for home phones and has cut my spam calls down to 0. It's pay for iphone and not available yet for Android. I'm patiently waiting though.

ETA: $1.99 per month for iphone

I feel enough people know this that they will leave a message if they want to get ahold of me. Or text. It is one of the more annoying first world problems though.

Only reason im glad I have a land line with my cable package. Anytime a business needs my phone number, they get my house number which I don't even answer. I just empty the answering machine once a month or so. Anyone that I would want to talk to has my cell number.

Banks / credit card companies mop up by selling your info. Do business with a credit union instead.

Lending Tree is unrelenting with the calls. Even if you find and close on a mortgage they continue to call months after.
