re: How did all these telemarketers get our cell numbers?

I just got 2 back to back, googled the numbers, one is from a horse stable in Covington and the other was from a boat dealer in Galiano. Both left blank 4 second voicemails, which is what these scam calls always do. So now it seems they're ghosting actual businesses, making it impossible to block them or have them be identified as spam.

Yarp. I'd never gotten a phone call from an 866 number before. Looked into refinancing a loan with Chase a few weeks ago and now I get 3 or 4 866 calls per day (and only one has been from Chase). That on top of the usual calls from the fake 504 numbers.

Yep. I use truecaller. It helps a lot. It doesn't block all of them, but it does get a lot.

I bought a Google Pixel.
I'm not sure if its the phone application on the Pixel that I use or the Pixel itself, but the phone automatically identifies Spam numbers for me and my phone won't ring or let them leave a voicemail if it thinks it is spam.
It just shows up "Suspected Spam Caller" and lets me reject it.
Love the feature. The calls have basically stopped at this point.

Here's the thing...putting your number on a "do not call registry" is never gonna work. Your numbers are all over the internet for anyone to find anytime, especially for those that are business owners. It's not like there's a red flag on a BBB, Facebook, Google or any other page that says "DO NOT CALL THIS # OR YOU'LL BE STRUNG UP BY YOUR TOES"
It's fricking annoying but it's the world we live in. Best you can do is to block them individually when they come in, but that won't prevent other people from getting it. Just let it go to vm if you can. I never answer calls from numbers I don't know, they'll leave me a message if it's important and I'll call back. 95% of the time they don't.

I never answer if I don't know who's calling. Half the time I don't answer when I know who's calling.

It's been real bad for me lately. I get several a day now. Some are only a few digits off of my number as well.

Any local number that begins with the same prefix as my phone 225-937 will never be answered. Always hang ups after 4 rings.

That fricking cúnt Rachel from Card Services used to call me at least once a day several years ago.
I did some research on the net and found out it was a scam business in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The next time they called me I stayed on the line and a guy answered.
I told him that I was a combat vet that just got back from my 3rd tour in Afghanistan and I've got a serious case of PTSD. "I'm considering killing myself, but before I do, I'm going to drive to Ft. Lauderdale and find your office and put chains on the doors. Then I'm gonna pour gasoline all around the building and set it on fire and stand back and watch y'all burn to death. And I'm gonna have my AR-15 with me to shoot any of you who try to climb out the windows. If I get one more call from y'all, I'll be on my way to kill you all."
There was silence for about 5 seconds then he hung up. Never got a call again from Rachel.

If you ever want to get back at someone for something, just do one of the online insurance searches under their phone number. They will get multiple calls per day for years.
Had a random black dude calling me on my business cell multiple times a day, often between 3am and 6am for a couple weeks. Left a message a couple times of him basically mumbling and mouth breathing for five-plus minutes. He finally calls during the day one time and I ask him who he is. He replies with something like "who are you?" I tell him he "ought to know for the number of times he's been calling me" and that if he keeps "that shite up, he'll wish he hadn't."
He called once more and I proceeded to sign his number up for Democratic National Committee donor lists and a few used car dealers looking for a Dodge Grand Caravan (and using his real first name since it was on his voicemail). Never heard from the dumbass again.

I thought it was just me. I used to rarely get calls and now I'm getting the typical out of state calls and now local ones. Now I'm not even picking up if it's a local number that I don't recognize. If it's important, they'll leave a message.

Some of them dial every possible number.
If I'm not busy I pretend to be interested so I can waste their time. Good thing about foreigners is they don't get suspicious of names like Pete Moss or Jack Mehoff.

They've spoofed my cell number too. I get multiple calls per day of someone saying they have a missed call from my number, or they're pissed because they think that I have spam called them. This shite needs to end!!
