Looking to change energy providers and I'm getting a feeling the power to choose sites seem shady. What's your experience finding a plan with these sites and what's your current rate?

Do they each have their own wires? I've never heard of such greatness.

I know, it is weird for someone coming from LA. I'm not so sure I'm a fan as yet because I seem to be paying a similar rate and with little to no improvement in customer service. On top of that, the uncertainty about whether I have the best plan for my household is always there. I'm hoping some of the TD peeps with more experience can show me the light...

Do you buy plans based on usage or just get a contract for a rate?

It's deregulation, Texas has it. They all use the same to your house infrastructure. You would think it would lead to lower prices, but it doesn't... Texas usually ranks in the middle of the spectrum for America as far as rates.

I'd go with Enron.

We recently switched to Discount Energy/Power. Rate is based on kilowatts used. Last month's bill was $58.00....home is all electric, a tad over 2000 square feet. Son uses them and recommended

We've never had a problem with picking a provider from the power to choose site. Just do your research on the specific plans you're interested in using. We had Tri Eagle for years, but switched to StarTex during the summer. So far, so good.

Power to choose is a perfectly legit site. Some of the high rate legacy providers will not shed tears when it goes away.

Anyway I use champion and locked in a nice low rate for 3 years.

I change most every year as my current provider will always Jack up the rate. I use powertochoose.org to compare. It's a legit site. I currently pay 7.5 cents per kW with Green Mountain.....all wind power.

Use power to choose and pick the best contract that's not with a provider with poor ratings. I had Spark for a few years and liked them a lot, but then one year when I went to renew, they were a lot higher than others. Switched to Reliant and have had no problems with them either.

Thanks that's what Im looking for. My wife got involved with someone on the site with a web chat and it certainly seemed like they were pushing. Glad to hear you all think the site is likely on the level.

My plan was with Xoom who has a terrible customer interface and their autopayments seemed to get rejected regularly. My plan expired and they jacked the rate to 12 cents/kwh.

I believe ours is 4.5 to 5.5 cents per 's when we use no less than 1000 per month and 7.5 if we fail to do so...two year plan

I'd probably go with the cheapest

I used Reliant the entire time. The rates were competitive and no complaints with service or customer service

Just go with the cheapest on power to choose. Doesn't matter who it is. When the power goes out yours will turn on the same time as your neighbors
