what were these people thinking?

Probably people who were on a fairly well drained part of the road when a bayou spilled over. Just a guess.

Yea, there were people that got stuck in traffic due to the early stages of flooding and then it just kept rising and they had no where to go. Last night they showed video of people trying to turn around and head against the grain in standstill traffic...what a clusterfrick

Yeah they interviewed a guy who was there and that's from last night. Said the water came out of nowhere and they had to abandon their vehicles.

2001

Damage from this storm might be more widespread even than Allison. Won't know until later this week the full damage. Probably some more rain coming today too (nothing like last night but it won't matter with the ground saturation and bayou levels).

We got hit pretty hard last night in Sugar Land. It was pretty heavy at times and crazy lightning and thunder. I was living inside the loop during Allison and to this day I've never seen rain fall as heavy and hard as it did that night.

Fricking 6 hour lightning storm. That was the worst I can remember.

With the water levels where they are, if it starts raining again, I'm outty. Not getting stuck at the office.

High water all over the place in Sugar Land

The lightning was IMPRESSIVE last night. There were times it seemed like daylight for 20-30 seconds at a time. Lightning was just that constant.

Alison was not about the intensity it was just it sat on Houston for what seemed to be a week.

here is its tracking

quote:

Tropical Storm Allison was a major flood disaster throughout its path from Texas to the Mid-Atlantic. The worst of the flooding occurred in Houston, Texas, where over 35 inches (890 mm) of rain fell. Allison killed 41 people, of which 27 drowned. The storm also caused over $9 billion in damage (2001 USD, $12 billion 2014 USD), making Allison the deadliest and costliest tropical storm on record in the United States.[2]

This was 59 during allison

Crazy. That picture is taken about 5 blocks from my house. How deep is the deck of 59 there? About 15 feet?
