It's more diversified than ever before. I don't feel like searching for a link, but just a couple years ago 5 of the top 10 employers in Houston were medical companies. The top 3 were Memorial Hermann, Continental, and MD Anderson.

Montrose represent

Like TCO said, stay within your neighborhood and you don't deal with traffic.

I'm not going across the city for lunch. I'm goin just a couple blocks away.

The medical community isn't exporting a commodity. O&G is what brings money to the city.

Most of the people I work with are from Houston, and I swear they hate this place. I guess sitting in traffic for an hour can do that to you

In your defense, it's a guarantee that some people who will bash Houston in this thread have never been to the city.

I do, but I would assume that's not an option for alot of people.

Have you seen housing prices inside the loop?. Alot of people I've talked to would love to live closer to the city, but either they can't afford it or they don't feel like it's safe enough to raise a family.

Well that's a choice. Take 4000 sq ft in the burbs, or 1800 in the city. I'm in Montrose. Takes me longer to park in my garage and walk to my office then it does actually driving there.

People make sacrifices no matter where they live. Mine just isn't traffic and dust in my extra 3 bedrooms that nobody goes in.

O&G mining is only 10-12% of Houston's GDP as opposed to somewhere around 25% during the collapse in the 80's. You're ignorant if you think that O&G is the only thing bringing money in to Houston. Tech and Medical are a big part of the diversified economy/GDP.

Yeah but with all the narrow arse lanes, potholes, and buses, driving around in the loop itself even for just a couple blocks is usually a nightmare, especially right now with all the road construction in the Upper Kirby area.

Other thing is that the weather is like Baton Rouge in that it's hot and humid, but it's surprisingly cloudy and generally shitty in the winter.

Overall, it's aight. Disappointing lack of stuff to do relative to its size, but there are jobs and plenty of decent places to live if you rent.

Nice job omitting 2014, especially last quarter 2014, when oil prices went to shite and Houston laid off thousands of workers.

But at least you can go to Joel Osteen's church.
