I was always told that if you ever take a life, you take that shite to the grave.

Anyone who celebrates it is most likely full of shite.

myself. Shot a shotgun at an old boat at the spillway that was abadoned. We used to take our parents guns and go shooting out there. And two pellets richoceted back and one hit my pants the other got stuck in my arm.

Thankfully it was birdshot.

I think most folks would think twice about shooting someone. Ferguson or no Ferguson.

This ain't the movies folks, we're talking about pointing a gun at someone and actually taking their life.

I have read several posts by politards who say that they would not think twice about shooting an American soldier who comes to take their guns away should the government ever ban guns.

I'll tell you I spent 15 months in Baghdad back in 03-04, you read in to that what you will.

You could have observed and stopped a guy from planting an IED near kids and I bet STILL felt like puking?

After calming down and having time it must hit you in the gut. I believe it would for me.

To OP, nope.

Own 2 guns and feel that I could shoot if threatened.

that will never happen, the second part. Even the most left of the liberals doesn't want all guns banned, it's just vitriol stirred up by the NRA.

Military training is designed to desensitize you to things like having to kill...it's one of the reasons many vets have issues transitioning back into civilian life. A persons life isn't valued the same any more.

At least, that's my opinion on the matter. Some may disagree.

I was 20 yrs old, just a few months shy of 21 when we got the order to move north to launch the ground phase of Desert Storm. I'd been in the Army almost 3 years and was sitting the the gunner's seat of a M1A1 Abrams. During the period of active combat I engaged and knocked out several tanks, APCs, and some trucks. I never actually saw a single person and only after we stopped and I actually saw what we'd done did it hit me that there were people in those tanks, APCs, and trucks.

That was over 24 years ago and to this day I still often think of how many I killed and it bothers me sometimes. In the last couple years as my own son is reaching his teen years the thought of some Iraqi father who's son who died out there in the middle of the desert by my hand weighs on my mind.

I know that feeling well. By no means was I trying to imply that former, and current, military personnel were numb to killing and to the after effects...I have had many sleepless nights, and probably will continue to. The training we received was enough for us to be able to DO our jobs...not deal with what came after.
