If you think there is a shred of Southern culture in Austin then you haven't ever been.
maybe that's what makes it one of the best cities in the South?

I hope Google hits Austin next. Maybe that'll be an entry for them to get to Houston, where I will be first in line to sign up for delicious gigabit internets

So I take it you also consider Philadelphia to be a Southern city since it's a two and a half hour drive from Robert E. Lee's home in Alexandria.

Your logic is flawed. If Austin wants to claim to be Southern that's fine but it's not accurate.

Yes it is. It's in Texas. In the Southern part of the country.

Am I arguing with a 9 year old?

ATX is cuturally semi-Southern too. It's pretty easy to find fried chicken, greens, sweet tea, southern accents, YALL, Baptist churches, etc. It's not Alabama, but it's not SoCal either.

Google will put most other internet providers out of business in 10 years.

The culture doesn't concern me.

GEOGRAPHICALLY, Austin is in the south. THAT'S why it's a southern city.

You said "Austin is in Texas.
Texas is in the Southern part of the country. ". By your logic New Mexico , Arizona, California , and Hawaii all are southern states.... Do they all have portions that are further south than Austin??? Yes or no??? Geographically ??

You made the statement that Austin is part of the South because it was in Texas, which simply isn't true. I'm still not sure why this topic bothers you so much.

Are we really arguing about this when we could be marveling at Google fiber? Can't wait to have this as an ISP option

Sorry. I know Houston is in the South, but a city, 2 and a half hours NW of it is not.

Who knew?

Austin is the shit, who gives a frick what region it's considered?

Also, Google is going to rule the world. That company and Amazon are simply incredible. Never heard of Google Fiber, but it looks unreal from that test video.

So why do they call their big music event South by Southwest if they aren't in the South?
