Is Sports what Reggie's used to be?
Also, where is/was Murphy's?
Yes, Sports Illustrated (later Sports) is now Reggie's.
Murphy's was 100% greek bar in old shopping center (strip mall) across from Louie's Cafe, on the end near IHOP and University movie theater.

Back in my day, Xantha's wasn't a gay bar, it was a heavy x and coke bar. T-Trax was the gay bar. Everyone went to The Bengal to drink and than to Xantha's for the high energy music.
Im pretty positive Xanthas was always the gay bar. T Trax was the techno X bar. But since they were basically across the street from each other, there was probably spillover.
Anybody said Ernie's yet? Tuesday night $.25 draft.

I could agree with The Bayou because some of the great music that have played there. What are some of the "before they got big" names that played there?
This is way before my time, but I heard that The Police and REM both played at the Bayou while they were getting started. I know The Pixies played at the Bayou, because that was a couple of years before I started at LSU.
Fun fact: The Sex Pistols played in Baton Rouge in 1978, at The Kingfish on Perkins...think it was the same shopping center where the Bulldog is now. I remember looking that up in The Advocate archives and seeing that The Ramones and Elvis Costello also played there

In the late 80s the chimes area was great for bars. Bayou, Chimes (before it went family restaurant), Murphy's, Bengal, even the library did ok. Today LSU has shite for the kids. It's weird.

The correct answer. Great joint for afternoon drinking and pool.

The Bengal was fun but that was because I was going there when I was 15

I really enjoyed Fred's during my time at lsu! Side note, anyone ever go to tabby's blues bar downtown? Was drinking beer there when I was 18, freshmen year!

Dublin's in Tigerland had penny pitchers on Wednesday. That was a shite show.

There was a shopping center with a Blimpie and a bar; I'd go in there with my Green Wave cap before a LSU-Tulane game and get the love. Fun place.
When I used to do some audits in BR, there was this kind of divy place a little away from campus that had an upstairs that I liked. Maybe on Perkins.

Murphy's
Fred's
Underrated--going to the union to get some pitchers of beer and shoot pool or bowl.
