Well..if you are trying to find the GOAT, you have to consider bars that are no longer open...

The Blind Tiger

The few months it was open were some of the best times I had at LSU. And why I didn't graduate on time. We were there at least three nights a week. They always had free drinks. I never could figure out how they made money.

Tiger Todd renamed The tiger bar to stadium club for a few short years before he changed it back to Tiger bar.

Within a 15 min walk of campus?

1960's: The Keg; The Bengal; The White Horse. All on Highland.

1970's: See above plus MaGoo's (Phil Brady's); The Alligator; The Brass Rail.

1980's: The Bayou; The Chimes; Murphy's.

1990's: Everyone had cars and the-local-to-campus places became so-so.

Outside of a 15 minute walk, Southdowns on Perkins Rd. If you couldn't get laid there, you needed to lay down and call the Coroner's office...

I got laid there a few times, actually in there, in the back unisex bathroom!!!

Back to the topic, with the Police and REM having played at the Bayou, I would put it as the GOAT bar at LSU.

2 friends and I almost got killed in the Bayou one night by the Sons of Silence biker gang. When they walked in, my jackass roommate felt it necessary to mockingly announce in a sort of falsetto, "Ooh, look at the Big Bad arse Biker Gang!" This was just loud enough for one of their bitches to overhear and report it to the short one named "Squeaky," who apparently took great offense.

We ended up cornered with our backs against the wall, pool cues at the ready, waiting for the shite to hit the fan. After what seemed like an hour of tense negotiations with the North Koreans, the leader finally gave his consent for us to leave without being knifed outside.
