The Advocates mobile site is the fricking worst. I can never make it through the full article because I get so frustrated by the pop up ads

Louisiana has the 9th lowest gas tax at 20.01 cents. Bump it to 37.01 and louisana would be the 9th highest. Pretty big jump.

For me and the wife, that would cost us about $4.25 a week, assuming 25 gal per week. Not a bad deal if the money was spent properly. That's a pretty big if.

Exactly. 17 cents times 15 gallons is $2.55 dollars. If its gonna raise half a billion dollars that can be spent effectively, that's more than worth it. If it's gonna be pocketed by some a-hole, well it was worth a shot in trying to fix this shitty state

After shaking down the DOTD vendors with a fund raiser in Manchac for his brother (supposedly raised $750K) JBE had to do something to pay them back with our money.

46 states have upped their gas tax since Louisiana has raised its own. With inflation and increased fuel efficiency our current gas tax is nearly worthless.

I very rarely ever support a tax increase but I definitely support this one. It's much needed.

Question for the Houston/Dallas folks: How much a month do y'all pay in tolls?

Cutting bloat? Cutting entitlements? Living within ones means?

I wholeheartedly agree.

No. New. Taxes. No. Tax. Increases.

This ignorance is why Louisiana sits at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to infrastructure. DOTD has been slashed to the bone over the past decade. If you want to argue that dedicated funds have been misused I would agree, but even if every dedicated dollar for Transportation was used correctly, DOTD could only fund about one major project per year.

My issue is there are so many other ways to cut into the deficit by slashing the hell out of unnecessary spending but JBE only continues to come to the table with tax increases. Get your house in order and then let's talk tax increases, but sure let's keep giving them money when they've continually shown they'll find ways to squander it.

So why give them more money to misuse?

If you give a kid $10 for lunch for the week and they blow it all on toys or some shite, do you give them more money to waste the next day?

but even if every dedicated dollar for xxxxxx was used correctly

Until every dedicated dollar for ANY project is used solely FOR that project, they don't deserve a cent more.

That goes across the board.

The problem is the misused funds, dude. Why allow the bastards to steal more? Guess what, that same inflation they cite affects my buying power, too. I think your post said it right, except it's your line of thinking that will maintain LA @ 49th-50th.
