So why give them more money to misuse?
This misuse of money is not DOTDs fault. They did not choose to divert dedicated funds towards the police department, nor did they recommend the Audobon bridge. It was the idiotic previous administrations that did these things.
If this were any other topic I would agree with you, but our infrastructure investment is too far behind to wait for the government to prove us right. We can't keep up with the desperate need with the current tax. If we could cut useless government programs to help fund this then that's great, but that's not going to happen. Infrastructure needs money now or there will never be any other topics on the OT besides how much traffic/BR sucks

A bill that would increase Louisiana's gasoline tax by 17 cents per gallon, and raise $510 million per year, cleared its first hurdle Tuesday afternoon when the House Ways and Means Committee approved it.
probably not gonna pass homie. relax.

Yes, I am jealous and would trade places tomorrow. Even if I had to eat GC every night.

I beg to differ. It's a government agency. Not a single government agency spends it's alloted money properly. They are wasteful in nature.

It can and should. Stop the flow of cash and force them to use what they have. As a whole. Not just one department. When the rubber hits the road a choice has to be made.
But when you keep handing a child more money and say "now Tommy this money is for lunch ONLY" and then they spend it on toys or the arcade, and then turn around and keep giving them more and more, what incentive does the child have to spend the money on what the money was designed for rather than what he wants it for?

For me and the wife, that would cost us about $4.25 a week, assuming 25 gal per week. Not a bad deal if the money was spent properly.
100% chance it won't. The funds WILL NOT be dedicated to just roads and infrastructure.....it will go to other departments as well. That is a FACT. Steve Carter is a POS and would never admit that either.

I very rarely ever support a tax increase but I definitely support this one. It's much needed.
Dedicate the funds to just roads and infrastructure and you'll prolly get most of the Republicans in the House on board.
But when the shite is gonna be wasted they ain't gonna vote for it. And rightfully so....if the Dems can't meet halfway, which they never do....then Louisiana roads need to continue to suck arse.

This ignorance is why Louisiana sits at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to infrastructure. DOTD has been slashed to the bone over the past decade. If you want to argue that dedicated funds have been misused I would agree, but even if every dedicated dollar for Transportation was used correctly, DOTD could only fund about one major project per year.
Wrong on all accounts.....

Ok. So start firing people. Cut your dept in half. Start putting toll booths up at the entrance of I-10, I-12, I-49, Airline, and every other main entryway into our state. Put other toll booths up in other places throughout the state. Texas does it. Florida does it. North Carolina does it. The Republicans had a plan like this and the Dems shot it down. So let the traffic continue to suck.
The Republicans tried.....all the Dems wanna do and all the EVER wanna do is raise taxes. I sat in the House when they debated the budget bill.....EVERY democrat that stood up....all their answer was raise taxes. Raise taxes. Can't cut this, can't cut that. There is seriously something wrong a Democrat.

states can't toll existing interstate, unless they add lanes and then they could only toll those lanes

So one of the most corrupt departments in the entire country will get more money to squander. Brilliant!

She is easy to beat.
Her family owns a funeral home in Breaux Bridge, LA.
They are closet democrats and she just ran republican to get the people in her area to vote for her.
Anyone strong at public speaking can beat her.
She had a political guy that runs political stuff around BR manager her campaign.
Get her one on one in a debate with a competent person and that person will beat her.
She ran against Ryan Heck. The guy is ok just not a polished candidate!
As far as dotd they waste money. They have their hands in the vendors pockets. One vendor sells them steel and they may put a coating that means nothing on rebar just to demand a higher price and take out the competition.
I am not against a gas tax if they actually stop with buddy buddy system, cut out dead heads, and complete jobs on time on budget.

I came here to write this but you put it better. You should teach Poli Sci at LSU.

Me? Teach? Lmao I'd get fired with the quickness. Zero filter + more "extreme" views aren't the qualities colleges look for in their professors.
They like "yes men" and status quo. Not a foul mouthed a-hole who will tell you to your face why you're a complete idiot. I can see the complaints now

Very little but I rarely need to take a toll.
I-10 from downtown to Katy is nicer than anything LA has and at peak hours has 2 hov and two lanes
The gas tax is something that should probably go up due to up miles per gallon. It's one of the best taxes that we have when the state fixes roads and not just give out good ol boy highway contracts that never are completed.
It's as pure of a consumption taxes as you will find
