The companies I am aware of that give a vehicle allowance of around $1k per month. This covers the note, insurance, maintenance, etc.
Those that get a company vehicle get around $1k less in pay, per month, than the company would be willing to pay if no vehicle was required. They are "Giving" you a company vehicle in lieu of more pay.
There needs to be an on/off switch for when you are off the clock. Having a GPS unit installed and not telling you aboot it is sneaky, no matter how you look at it.

Of course I adjust for my personal use of these benefits on my taxes but estimate the value of having unlimited personal use of a phone and a vehicle for the past quarter century.
It’s prima facia six digits and then factor in the time-value of not having to outlay that money for those things in all of those years.
Some years my personal use of the vehicle topped 20k. Phone, unlimited use/data as well.
I have always operated under the understanding that I had ZERO reasonable expectation of privacy for either the phone or the vehicle.
They are simply not mine.

My old company did it to me. Mine magically stopped working. And yes it pissed me off when I found out about it. I would screw with my boss because he would randomly call me and i would tell him I was across town.

Funny timing on this - I got a call yesterday from the dealership I bought my car from two years ago. They tell me my left rear tire is low on air. I had just gotten new tires installed Monday ! And no...I don’t subscribe to OnStar.

Not necessarily true. Depends on what you do for a living. I work in industrial sales, and I have to have a company vehicle to enter many customer sites, for insurance reasons.
Also I think you are way overestimating the extent to which HR/fleet departments are willing to “work with” employees.

Does that surprise you? They don't care if you go to the titty bar. Just don't get the car stolen while at the titty bar and don't go during work hours.

Enterprise does not put trackers on their vehicles. The only ones that have trackers are their high end Exotic cars (Corvettes, G-Wagons, etc) and those have trackers with the ability to cut the engine off.

From a legal standpoint, it can pretty much provide evidence against you (i.e., wreck, speeding) That's why we took them out of our vehicles

As long as it doesnt beeps at the speed limit I wouldnt worry about it. Had one that wouldnt let you go 70. Had to go 69 to avoid hearing the beep. I gave that shite back and went back to car allowance

It’s likely to recover the vehicle in the event of theft or for info if your mileage is crazy high. I doubt they have time to track their employees every day.

You see, that’s the thing about it, In 24 years of employment I have never done a single thing wrong in my company vehicle. If they had been up front about it, I would not have had a problem with it.
