So why do you assume that most of these folks are not working, contrary to what statistics show?

Instead of me getting banned, perhaps you should find a safe space.

Are you trying to deny that MANY of WIC users are in fact, not working?

Not at all. But I would rather my tax money go to 50 leeches if it means 1 kid doesn't have to go to bed hungry because their parents are trash.

Good for you. But can't you respect the opinion of others that do not want their tax money going to 50 leeches, and would rather that one child being fed without the our taxes?
The fact of the matter is, no child is starving in the U.S. Anyone can go to any shelter, at any time, and get fed. Hell, you can walk down a street, knock on a door, and someone will give you bread. Water. Much more.

You quoted a scripture that supported your position on welfare. I quoted one saying the opposite. If you're going to pretend to know Jesus' position, I think all sides should be shown.

I can respect that position. What I can't respect is folks automatically flying off the deep end and classifying every person that is less fortunate as them as garbage who are only in the position they are because they don't try.

Some people get laid off of employment and can't find a job. Some people have medical emergencies and find themselves in so much debt that they'll never recover. Some folks lose a spouse and can no longer afford to support themselves and pay bills.

But when many people that oppose these programs hear welfare, they don't see that. They see black people sitting around with an iPhone 7, smoking 5 pounds of weed.

Have a little empathy for people. You might need it sometime yourself.

Interesting discussion. Couple of points...

Amazon is a business that can do what it wants. They've identified this is a way to either increase profits or to feel like they're doing some good. The financial risk is entirely on them so I support them doing what they want.

I'm not poor and I have a Prime account. I think it's bullshite that I have to pay more for something just because I'm not a screw up financially. I'm not forced to join Amazon so I can leave at any point.

Everything I said above is true or reflects my opinions. At the end of the day, I'm not stopping my Prime subscription even though I think this sucks. Props to Amazon for finding a way to possible grow their business (or goodwill) without losing this customer because they are still offering me a value I want. That's a free market.

Poor people in other countries are very skinny and malnourished.

Poor people in the US are fat.

I'm not against the welfare system. Its a great system if people wouldn't abuse it. Its designed to help those unable to work and get people off of their feet.

My grandparents were very poor. They had a mentally challenged kid so it was hard for them to work and so on. They were on assistance. I remember going there when I was younger and seeing their food. All the food was in white boxes and it said what was in it like "Cereal". It was the bare necessities to survive. Its not like today where its cheetos, cookies, and coke. We need to go back to those days.

I 100% agree with all of this. I think the current welfare system is very flawed and needs to be reworked to reduce the amount of freeloading on the system. I'm just not willing to punish or demonize the folks that sincerely need the current system because of the perception created by the groups that take advantage of it.

Odd that you think government programs like this were designed for discount Tyler Perry movie watching.

Except the government isn't paying for this. Amazon is.

It's nothing more than class discrimination. Think of it as a Sonic only charging a poor person half for a slush.

You'd be pissed at Sonic probably, and you should be pissed at Amazon. Businesses should not be in the business of wealth redistribution downwards.

This is a new spin on corporate welfare. Wow.
I mean maybe, or are they attempting to pull in a market share that they would not normally pull in

meaning does this make them money as opposed to lose them money. Will the people on welfare that already have this membership be greatly outweighed by those who don't but will now get it because it is half off?

Of course I am not looking at this from a political perspective but from a business perspective

This could feasibly make amazon money while still allowing them to gain a significant amount of moral capital by appearing generous to the poor when in actuality this in a technical sense, should hurt the poor more than helps them by enticing them to spend on a luxury they don't need

Myself and the gf (no pics) went to Walmart a few weeks back. Well we were in the checkout at garden center and there was a black female with a cart full of shite in front of us. The cart was loaded with ribs, chicken and a damn BBQ grill in it. Ole girl pulls out the ebt card pays with it and then pays remaining balance with another card. We are walking out and parked right next to my vehicle is the same girl in a brand new car loading it up with groceries. Gotta love it glad my tax money is helping these people out

How is it a straw man argument? They get a $28/year discount and you're claiming this will lead to poverty complacency?

$5.99 a month for one year.

So a year of Prime at that rate is $84 instead of $99 - not much of a discount.

Damn, it's a blizzard in June with all these snowflakes complaining about a private company increasing market share and penetration.

Won't be long until they can use SNAP to buy cases of monster energy drinks.
