Odd that you think government programs like this were designed for discount Tyler Perry movie watching.

And if the program was PAYING for it, I would be just as outraged. Amazon is just using it as a system to identify needy individuals.

I get it. The reduced rate. Kind of similar to cable companies with their new customer rebates while they go in no lube on their existing customers. This one just doesn't seem to bother me that much for some reason since people can benefit from getting the 2 day shipping and maybe, just maybe it can help someone get off the system.

It also requires a computer, smartphone, internet/data connection to utilize this benefit. Typically people with access to these modern conveniences would not be considered 'poor'.

For fricks sake, typically I'm on the other side of this argument but having outrage that "the poors" are getting access to services that you enjoy even with no tax dollars spent is absurd.

Yep. Don't see why this matters. It doesn't say Amazon is now accepting EBT as a form of payment. It doesn't say you as a tax paying citizen have to do anything or give up anything. It is literally just offering Prime services to low income individuals for $6/month. They still have to purchase the items with their own money.

Must suck being butthurt over this type of shite constantly.

Can't blame Amazon for trying to improve market penetration

Let's be honest.

Standard of living has gotten to the point that computer access is literally essential to normal life.

Even isolating to just finding employment:

No computer, hard to write a half decent resume, hard to even find job postings.

Also, fiscal accessibility has never been higher. You can buy a tablet to do web surfing on for less than 50 bucks.

I agree welfare state is a problem, food stamps are abused, and something needs to be done. But you frickers seem to act like anyone on welfare living in any state but a 1920s farm is a fricking travesty

So many of y'all are hung up on the wrong thing. Variable pricing and using machine learning to maximize the price you can charge someone for a product is where a lot of companies want to go. Uber's already gotten busted for this for experimenting with charging more if you get a ride from a rich neighborhood to a rich neighborhood.

No kidding, 93% of Africa now has access to cell service. It's 2017, not 1997. You can get a laptop for $100.

The funny part is that probably a good number of those against this are ones who say that welfare should go away and be privatized/more reliant on charity.

WTF do they think this is?

So poor people can either pay $71/year to get Prime (and services); or they can pay $0 and get most of the same items (usually for cheaper than Amazon) from Walmart (could also pick up in store for additional discount).

Because if they can pay for a streaming video service or a bunch of non-necessity items from Amazon, then they can afford to buy their own bread and milk too

Confused. Are you triggered that they get this benefit for a couple years? It could potentially help someone get back on their feet.

It's backwards. If Amazon can offer a lower cost for the same service, they can offer it to everyone.

At a larger scale, this provides no incentive for someone with lower income (and on food stamps) to attain greater economic standing. In fact, it incentivizes complacency.

Helping someone, sure. But what about the customers that have been paying $8.25/month? Either I'm paying for someone to get the same service cheaper or Amazon can offer it cheaper to everyone.

I'm beyond angry. frick amazon.

I've had prime for years and never received a break. In fact, it's increased, and I still paid it.

Now Amazon is going to punish me for being a productive member of society.

frick you. And frick prime. And frick welfare.
