I loved Puerto Rico. Stayed in a five star resort where the Caribbean and the Atlantic meet for under that. Flight from MSY on Southwest is around $350/pp

Any details about where you stayed? Thanks.

Costa Rica can be cheaper than that and still really nice.
Gotta get flights early and get a hotel deal, but you could do it.
My husband and I did 10 days in CR for around 3k for both of us. That included airfare, all hotels, all transportation and all the excursions we did while there. We maybe spent another 1000-1500 on food, drinks, shopping, tips, etc for both of us.

This seems attractive to me. How does it compare to Mexico/All the other Caribbean islands?

You could go nearly anywhere in the world for 3k if you use credit cards bonuses to help you.

You can do a week in Paris in the off season for about this

rent a car and drive 5 hours south
Bet it'll cost over $3k when you get stopped by crooked cops every 15 miles

I've been thinking of a trip to the Florida Keys. However, I have heard that they really don't have much of a beach to relax at. Is that true?
If I wanted to spend my vacation in various bars, I'd head to the French Quarter or the many pubs in London and Dublin.

Iceland. Book far enough in advance with WOW air and you can definitely fly two people roundtrip for <$1500. Food is expensive once there, but the best way to see Iceland is to drive around and camp so you can save money on food by cooking your own meals. If you're outdoorsy, I highly recommend it.

You can easily go anywhere in Western Europe for that amount.
Southeast Asia or South America too if you work hard to find cheap flights.
I'll be doing Mongolia in August and probably won't spend more than $30 a day for example. The problem is that airfare getting there will usually cost you $2k.
Do you have any miles stored up?

Everything about this sounds nice except for that 5 hour drive. That would be brutal. Is this area safe?
Yea, wife and I went on our honeymoon 15 years ago and then returned last year. There are no issues in this part of Mexico. The last hour of driving is on a 2 lane road that the vegitation has reduced down to a 1.5 lane road due to the lack of traffic, but besides that no issues. There are lots of places both Mayan and other things like caves, etc to explore also if you so choose. We like to break the trip into a couple of days on Playa for nightlife and shopping and then down to Xcalak for relaxation.
The area is known for fly fishing and scuba, but there are a couple of decent local restaurants to provide food

Aruba
They have a couple of Best beaches in the World. Super relaxing, good food, and super nice people.
Stay at Renaissance, and you take boat trip to their private island.

Not really. I don't have an airlines reward card - I use a cashback card for all my purchases and just have the rewards deducted from my bill.

I bet Iceland is awesome. The pictures I've seen look stunning.
And no threat of Zika virus. If you are traveling with your SO and y'all plan on getting pregnant soon....you should pay attention to where this virus is popping up.
