Here's another tip.

join Costco and use their travel website.

costcotravel.com

I'm planning something and I have Aruba for three staying at a 4 star Marriott resort in my crosshairs for $2600 all inclusive.

I'm definitely looking into costco travel with a close eye on Playa Del Carmen resorts. Aruba sounds intriguing as well.

Playa Del Carmen resorts.

Personally I would go to Cozumel instead of Playa, it's a short boat ride between the two.

Never been to either (my wife has), so can you explain your preference?

Should be able to do this for way less then $3k. My wife and I stayed here in the 80s and had a blast with another couple in Marathon, FL. Free use of boats, close drive to Key West, etc. Nothing fancy, very nice laid back owners.

End of August through Labor Day weekend - not set in stone but this is what we're looking at for now.

I guess it depends on what you go for, Playa will give you easier access to day trips like cenote snorkeling or visiting Tulum, but if you are going to relax on the beach or water sports/diving Cozumel is better, imo.

My nephew and wife did Cozumel for a week in October last year for under $2k.

Fly into Sacramento and take a private limo tour of Napa with just you and your wife. Stay in a nice b&b. Then take rental car to Yosemite and soak it all in. Stay a night or 2 there before heading to San Fran for a night of fine dining and fly out from there the next morning.

Grand Cayman. Stayed at a B&B in Boddington on the south side. A week was right at $3000 with airfare, car rental, lodging, and food and drink.

I would absolutely love this. Not sure if it's what my wife had in mind as she is looking at more tropical destinations. I will absolutely bring it up though. My parents did something like this about 8 years ago and had a really good time.

Punta Cana is a great place if you are good with staying confined to a 20 acre all inclusive. The beach peddlers are pretty annoying though. Going outside the resort is not recommended unless you speak fluent Spanish and have some street smarts and even then you should be in a small group.

Just buy the beach concierge service for the week. You need an umbrella pole that can get down to bedrock because of the wind and they auger them in real good. Take glasses or goggles to keep the sand out of your eyes as well. Windiest damn place I have ever been.

Really depends on what you want to do when considering Caribbean Islands. We have been to quite a few and cost of goods is always higher than in the U.S. But some are way higher.

Places that I have been that are crazy expensive to dine and purchase groceries:

Turk &Caicos
Exuma (Bahamas)- same for all of the out islands
St Bart's
Anguilla
Bermuda (not really Carribean though)

Reasonable:
Grand Cayman
Barbados
St. Lucia
Antigua

Cheap(relative to other Caribbean islands):
Dominican Republic
Puerto Rico

My next planned island to visit is St Vincent Grenadines. Eventually want to try Dominica and Martinique. I have no burning desire to visit Nevis or St Kitts.

Out of the ones I have been to, I think Grand Cayman is the best value. Highly educated citizens and English speaking. Great roads and not the chaotic driving you find on other islands. Great supermarkets and restaurants. Seven mile Beach is one of the best "long" beaches in the world. Snorkeling from the beach at Smiths Cove, Cemetery Beach, and Rum Point. You always feel safe no matter where you are.

You did this for $3000 or less for two people?

We went last summer and let's just say we eclipsed the 3k mark
