Why do people care how other people spend their money?

Why do people care how other people spend their time with their family?

You have no idea how much money I've spent on motocross racing for my kid
I have never sat on a motorcycle, and dont watch racing sports. I will say that most of the people that I knew that did it developed really close family bonds.

It makes them feel better about how they are living their own life.

I always find it funny how people take the most extreme end of a topic and act like that is the norm.

Calling out bad decisions is the proper course of action.

There are actual stats in the article.

It isn't the most extreme end of a topic.

How is that different from regular gas?

Race gas is way cleaner and goes through a rigorous refining process. I also use race gas (VP fuels' T4) and it costs me $70 for 5 gallons. Motocross is an expensive sport.

Oh, it's a Waldolph Astoria and he pulls down between $3-$4k a week

So he is doing better than a non champion ski jumper?

Should have stuck it out for the olympics though. I've heard Olympic Village is a non stop party

Repetitive use injuries are on the rise. We get second and third opinion requests from parents running from reality as well.

I also don't believe for a second the father in the OP is angling for a golf scholly. It's all about being a pro.

Parents are never able to literally look in the mirror. If you don't have the genes, neither will your kids.

Pro athletes are almost uniformally genetic lotto winners.

Does that apply to every situation or just certain ones?

It only applies to the bad decisions that he is guilty of making. Other idiots are fine to make fun of.

If you want to see parents shell out gobs of money on their kids sports, hang out a horse show.

It's probably the most expensive sport out there. Parents incur the typical costs of all sports; travel expenses, entry fees, trainers, classes, clothes. On top of that you have the costs associated with the actual horse. They are pricey to rent or buy. The better rider the kid becomes, a better horse is needed. The upkeep is astronomical; boarding fees, the vet. Oh lord the vet. Farriers. Good tack is expensive and somebody is always selling some piece of equipment that is going to solve all your horse's issues.

I can't even guess how many times I've seen families go through this for years, only to have little Susie lose interest somewhere around her 16th Birthday.. Then the parents are stuck with a horse they can't sell and boarding fees.

This. Travel ball is trashy as shite compared to horse shows. I had several friends that competed on the circuit and you're right, all of them lost interest right about the time they hit puberty.

Of course, now some of them ride "for fun" again now that their married and Junior League only takes up so much time.

Lawd , wish I could find some of these parents, my sister, my wife, my mother and my mother in law have all decided that wild horse rescue is a good idea. So, I'm paying all that on horses that no one is even riding.
